辨析：instead of和instead

（1）作為短語介詞，instead of 后面常跟名詞、代詞和動名詞。

（2）instead是副詞，意為“代替;反而”。

instead常用在句末，也可用在句首，這時多用逗號與句子的主體部分隔開。

I didnt have a pen， so I used a pencil instead.

注意：用instead的句子也可以改成instead of。

1. unless引導條件狀語從句

unless是連詞，意為“除非;如果不”，含有否定意義，相當于if... not。

She will keep on singing unless she is told to stop.

=She will keep on singing if she is not told to stop.

她會一直唱下去，除非有人叫她停止。

注意：

（1）unless引導條件狀語從句時，如果主句是一般將來時，從句用一般現在時表將來。

（2）unless引導的條件狀語從句也可以用or （否則） 來做同義句轉換。

Unless you listen carefully， you wont know the answer.

=You should listen carefully， or you wont know the answer. 除非你仔細聽，否則你不會知道答案。

2. as soon as 引導時間狀語從句

as soon as是連詞詞組，意為“―……就……”。

As soon as he heard the news， he jumped with joy.

他一聽到這個消息就高興地跳了起來。

注意：as soon as引導條件狀語從句時，如果主句是一般將來時，從句用一般現在時表將來。

3. so... that 引導結果狀語從句

so... that表示“如此……以至于……”，常見結構為：

（1）so+形容詞/副詞+that從句

The wind was so strong that we could hardly move forward.

（2）so+形容詞+a/an+單數名詞+that從句

It was so hot a day that they all went swimming.
