What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare?—

No time to stand beneath the boughs,

And stare as long as sheep or cows:

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like skies at night:

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,

And watch her feet， how they can dance:

No time to wait till her mouth can

Enrich that smile her eyes began?

A poor life this if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

W. H. Davies（1871—1940），英國(guó)詩(shī)人、作家，其詩(shī)風(fēng)清新、自然、質(zhì)樸。 本詩(shī)是他最負(fù)盛名的一首小詩(shī)。

詩(shī)人運(yùn)用了重復(fù)的修辭手法，對(duì)“no time to do”這一結(jié)構(gòu)進(jìn)行重復(fù)， 進(jìn)一步強(qiáng)調(diào)了生活的忙碌。 “We have no time to stand and stare”這句在詩(shī)中出現(xiàn)了兩次，尤其是出現(xiàn)在詩(shī)的最后，表達(dá)了詩(shī)人對(duì)無(wú)暇顧及生活美好的深深嘆息。
