【詞語精講】

1. newspaper n. 報紙

newspaper是可數名詞，由news新聞（不可數）+paper紙（不可數）構成。常見短語有：read a newspaper看報紙;in the newspaper在報紙上。如：

My grandmother usually read a newspaper at night. 我的祖母總是在晚上看報紙。

There is a major event in the newspaper. 在今日的報紙上有一個重大事件。

2. use v. 使用;運用

use用作動詞，意為“使用”。它的形容詞形式為useful，意為“有用的”。如：

Can you use a computer？你會使用電腦嗎？

Learning English is useful for us. 學英語對我們來說是有用的。

拓展：use還可用作名詞，意為“用途，用處”。如：

This machine has many uses. 這個機器有很多用途。

3. race n. 競賽

race 指賽跑、賽車、游泳等與速度相關的比賽，而它的同義詞game則指球類、棋類等體育比賽，即指決定勝負的游戲、有一套規則，需要參賽者遵守。如：

Do you like to watch sports games on TV？ 你喜歡看電視上的體育比賽嗎？

The boy is the youngest runner in the race. 這個男孩是比賽中最小的選手。

4. any adj. 任何的;任一的

any 通常與單數名詞連用，用于肯定句中，起強調作用。常見短語：any other 意為“其他任何一個;任何其他的” 指在同一范圍內除了某人或某物以外的其他任何人或物，其后接單數名詞。如：

You can come any day. 你哪天來都行。

John runs faster than any other boy in his class. 約翰比他班上的其他任何一個男孩跑得都快。

Blue Whale is bigger than any other animal in the world. 藍鯨比世界上其他任何一個動物都大。

辨析： some & any

some， any后都可以接可數名詞的復數和不可數名詞。通常情況下some用于肯定句、肯定回答的句子中;any用于否定句、否定回答和疑問句中。但some也可以用于表示委婉請求的問句中。如：

I have some bread， but I don't have any milk. 我吃些面包，但沒喝牛奶。

Would you like some soup？ 你想來點湯嗎？

I have some books about animals. 我有一些關于動物的書籍。

5. wish v. 希望

wish用作動詞， 意為 “希望”，常見搭配：wish （sb.） to do sth. 希望某人去做某事。如：

Mike wishes to go to China. 邁克希望去中國。

Children wish mom to take them to go out for dinner. 孩子們希望媽媽帶他們出去吃飯。
