Abstract：Taking two decades or so as a cycle，the second round of massive countrywide local chronicles compilation is about to end，ushering in the third round.In this critical transition period，fromthe important perspective of tackling“difficulties and problems，”efforts should be made to summarize the experience of the second round，identify problems through theoretical discussion and sum up rules on the academic research level，which will significantly drive the third round of local chronicles compilation and even the development of the local chronicles compilation undertaking of China.

Abstract：Textbook for Shanghai’s Charactermainly explores the connotation and correlation of Shanghai’s three character cores，namely openness，innovation and inclusiveness，presenting the historical evolution of the city’s character.Shanghai's city character can come down to three cores and nine features.The three cores of openness，innovation and inclusiveness are the three main themes，and can be detailed in nine features，namely unimpeded smoothness，pluralistic competition，autonomy and rule of law in the scope of openness；science-oriented，pursuing goodness and beauty，seeking constant improvement；respecting differences，helping and supporting each other，and embracing diversity under the theme of inclusiveness.Shanghai's pursuit of innovation can be summarized into ten key points after the reform and opening-up was launched.

Abstract：Mr.Zou Yilin specializes in historical geography and local chronicles.Since the1980s，he has been actively engaged in the first and second rounds of local chronicles compilation.He has made many explorations on the new local chronicles theory while guiding local chronicles compilation for various places.This paper summarizes Zou Yilin's theoretical contribution，ideological characteristics and guiding value to the current local chronicles compilation from the aspects of attribute and boundary，value and function and compilation of local chronicles.Zou's thought of local chronicles not only enriches the theoretical system of new Local Chronicles Study，but also has great practical significance for the healthy development of local chronicles and the quality improvement of local chronicles compilation in the future.

Abstract：The local chronicles of the Sui and Tang dynasties were in the primary stage of the development history of Chinese local records，and little research has been made in academic circles.However，compared with the Qin and Han dynasties，the Sui and Tang dynasties had made great progress in terms of both compilation practice and theoretical research with the progress of the times.The local chronicles compiled during the Sui and Tang dynasties are mainly gazetteers with maps.By looking back at that era when gazetteers with maps thrived，this paper summarizes the characteristics of local chronicles during the period，and strives to have a more comprehensive understanding of the development of local chronicles of the Sui and Tang dynasties.

Abstract：This paper reviews the achievements of local records research in academic circles in 2019 from the following seven aspects：basic theory research，compilation work，management cause research，history of local records and history of Local Chronicles Study，research and utilization of local records，research on local records characters，and research on local almanac.It is found that in 2019，the research on Local Chronicles Study has made remarkable achievements，but there are still some problems，such as being fragmented，localized，and conservative，lack of depth in research and difficulty in the transformation of local chronicles undertaking.Therefore，it entails the endeavour of generations of professionals to transform the field of local chronicles，establish a discipline system for it and construct its right of discourse.

Abstract：“Chengzhan（Travel Journal）”appeared and officially became the title of a category inTibet Local Chroniclescompiled in the early years of Qianlong Period of Qing Dynasty.The addition of“Chengzhan”as a category was a move based on local conditions to highlight local characteristics.It reflects the development of Tibet local chronicles in Qing Dynasty and is of great importance in the history of Tibet local chronicles.The descriptions under the category of“Chengzhan”have important material value，exerting an impact on the later Qing Dynasty local chronicles of Tibet and Tibetan research works.

Abstract：This paper discusses how to improve the overall quality of almanac according to the standard of historical review from the two aspects of academic standards and social standards.In terms of academic standards，the compilation of almanac should give top priority to authenticity and scientific basis，pay attention to the content，ensure the quality and enhance the academic influence of almanac；in light of the social standards，the compilation of almanac should put more effortson the characteristics of guidance，applicability，continuity，times，uniqueness and innovation to expand its social influence.The former is the foundation which provides a solid pillar for the latter，while the latter is the guarantee which expands space for the former.The two complement each other and give full play to the important function of almanac.

·The Possibility and Practice of Writing Local History Books——Also on Religious Sites and Shanghai Local AreasXu Yuji（76）

Abstract：Discussions on local study and local history has drawn the attention of the academic circles in recent years，with many research perspectives coming up.For example，the“Fūdo（climate and culture）”theory proposed by the Japanese philosopher Tetsuro Watsuji is to make up for the limitation of Heidegger's individual“Dasein，”and puts forward the mutual generation between Fūdo and collective“us”consciousness.However，how to consider the“Fūdo”itself has become a major dilemma in writing local history.Religious Sites：The Gods，Beliefs，and Space in the History of Shanghai，a book recently compiled by History Compilation Bureau of Greater Shanghai，provides an exploratory sample for the study of Shanghai local history.With painstaking textual research and from the perspective of interdisciplinary history，the book tells the evolution of local belief space in modern Shanghai as well as the footprints of famous figures such as Xu Guangqi，the ninth Panchen Lama and Zhao Puchu in Shanghai，and constructs the possibility of identity and emotional belonging in Shanghai.

·Textual Research on Poems by Lu Xiaozeng and Gu TingzhangCha Zhigao（80）

Abstract：Poems by Lu Xiaozeng and Gu Tingzhangis a collection of 87 poems by Gu Tingzhang and Lu Xiaozeng in the Ming Dynasty.In the 13thyear of Yongzheng Period（1735），Ni Tui gathered the manuscripts of poems written by his grandfather Gu Tingzhang and his neighbor Lu Xiaozeng and compiled it intoPoemsby Lu Xiaozeng and Gu Tingzhang，with the preface written by Lin Zhaopeng.In the16thyear of Jiaqing Period（1811），Cao Chunlin made the block print of Southern Yunnan Magazine，and obtained Ni Tui'sChronicles of Yunnan and Poems by Lu Xiaozeng and Gu Tingzhang，and published the later at the end of his magazine.None of Ni，Lin and Cao found about Lu Xiaozeng's life stories in the historical literature.Based on the author’s textual research inQingpu County Annalsof Kangxi Period andGeneral Records of Henanof Yongzheng Period，it is found that Lu Xiaozeng was Lu Xichui.Lu died in the 8thyear of Kangxi Period（1669），and authoredRandom Notes on Central Shaanxi Plain，unfortunately it was lost.Lu Xichui once made field trips with Wu Qi and Ji Zishan，which can be confirmed by Wu Qi's poems and other literature.Gu's poems are mostly themed on the deeds of the Ming loyalties，while Lu's poems record the historical events of dynasty change in the late Ming Dynasty.Both of their poems express the pain of desolation and displacement in that period of transition.Therefore，the work is the cherished memory of the Ming loyalties for their sacrifices and the emphasis of the writers’own identities，reflecting their attempt to seek spiritual and physical sustenance after“displacement.”

·A Glimpse of Xingtai’s Ancient Stele lnscriptionsLu Gaihuan（86）

Abstract：In the process of collecting local records materials，the author learned about ancient stele inscriptions which are similar to local chronicles.Boasting a large number of inscriptions，complete types and rich contents，Xingtai plays an important role in the world of inscriptions in China.From Ouyang Xiu and Zhao Mingcheng in the Song Dynasty to Kang Youwei in modern times，even to date，many people have praised the steles，though most of them study and review them from the perspectives of calligraphy and plastic arts，with little efforts put in the broad and profound connotations they carried.On the basis of previous studies，the author attempts to make preliminary exploration on the historical value，artistic value and research value of several widely recognized ancient stele inscriptions，so as to draw more experts and scholars'attention for in-depth research.
