She appeared in front of my house in Cornwall with thin hair sticking on her small body.Maybe someone had kicked her out of his car the night before. No way could I have sent her away. “We're moving house.” “No space for her any more with the baby coming.” People find all kinds of excuses for abandoning her. She was so poor.

I called her Goldie. If I had known what was going to happen, I would have given her a more creative name. She was so restless during those first few days. She hardly ate anything and had such an air of sadness about herself. It seemed that there was nothing I could do to make her happy. God knows what had happened to her at her owner's home. How could her owner do such awful things! Judging her owner like this, I felt angry. Luckily, with my care, at the end of the first week she calmed down. That's why I was so surprised when she pulled away from me one day when we were out for a walk. We were a long way from home,when she got very restless. At last I couldn't hold her any longer and she ran off down the road towards a farmhouse far away as fast as she could.

By the time I reached the farm I was very tired and angry with Goldie. When I arrived, I saw her licking four little dogs and watching them with soft eyes. Rushing out of the room, a boy hugged me with tears in his eyes, “Thank God! Thank you for bring her back to us.” “I took her for a walk one day, soon after the puppies were born, and she just got lost,” said the woman with great joy at the door. “We have looked for her for a long time.”

I must say sorry to the family for my own thoughts. Thanks to Goldie, I had the chance to meet her owner and learned a lesson from this experience.

Now I really miss Goldie, but I've got my Nugget now, and she looks just like her mother.
