“《英語世界》杯”翻譯大賽肇始于2010年,由商務印書館《英語世界》雜志社主辦。短短數載,大賽參賽人數屢創新高,目前已經成為國內最有影響的翻譯賽事之一。為推動翻譯學科進一步發展,促進中外文化交流,我們秉承“給力英語學習,探尋翻譯之星”的理念,于2021年繼續舉辦第十二屆“《英語世界》杯”翻譯大賽,誠邀廣大翻譯愛好者積極參與,比秀佳譯。
第十二屆“《英語世界》杯”翻譯大賽得到北京師范大學的大力支持,并由該校冠名本屆比賽。2021年的翻譯大賽包含“英譯漢”和“漢譯英”兩個組別。大賽初評交給合辦院校的老師,以確保大賽評審的權威性和公信力。復評和終評我們將延續歷屆傳統,從全國各地邀請知名翻譯專家進行評審。

1. 2021年5月發布大賽啟事及原文,10月公布獲獎結果,見諸以下媒體:《英語世界》2021年第5期(啟事及原文)和第10期(獲獎結果等)、《英語世界》網站(www.yingyushijie.com)、《英語世界》微信公眾平臺(微信號:theworldofenglish)、《英語世界》微博(http://weibo.com/theworldofenglish)、北京師范大學外國語言文學學院網站、商務印書館網站(www.cp.com.cn)、英文巴士網(www.en84.com)等。
2.參賽投稿截止時間:2021年7月20日24時。
3.大賽各項最新進展將通過《英語世界》微信公眾號實時發布,請予關注。
參賽要求
1.參賽者國籍、年齡、學歷不限。
2.參賽譯文須獨立完成,不接受合作譯稿。
3.僅第一次投稿有效,不接受修改后的再投稿件。
4.只接受電子版投稿,不接受紙質投稿。
5.在大賽截稿日之前,請妥善保存參賽譯文,勿在報刊、網絡等任何媒體上以任何方式公布,違者取消參賽資格并承擔相應后果。
6.參賽譯文一經發現抄襲或雷同,或院校集體輔導參賽等,即取消涉事者參賽資格。
7.參賽者投稿即視為其本人同意和自愿遵守本啟事的各項規定。
獎項及證明
1.“英譯漢”和“漢譯英”每組擬分別設置一等獎1名,二等獎2名,三等獎3名,優秀獎若干名。
2.一、二、三等獎頒發證書、獎金和獎品,優秀獎頒發證書和獎品。
3.所有獲獎者均獲贈2022年1—12期《英語世界》雜志,并有機會受邀成為《英語世界》的譯者。
4.積極組織學生參加翻譯大賽的院校,頒發“優秀組織獎”證書;獲獎院校有機會成為“《英語世界》翻譯實踐基地”合作單位。
5.入圍復審名單的參賽者,應本人要求可由本社開具“入圍復審”的書面證明。
報名及繳費
1.為應對不斷攀升的評審成本、提高獎勵額度、遏制少數人敷衍投稿的行為,本屆大賽酌情收取少量、不至給參賽者造成較大負擔的參賽費,以保障大賽良性開展。懇請參賽者諒解為盼。
2.單獨參加“英譯漢”或“漢譯英”其中一項比賽繳納參賽費50元,兩項均參加繳納參賽費100元。
3.報名繳費流程:關注我刊微信公眾號(theworldofenglish),閱讀大賽啟事,點擊文末“大賽報名”登錄英語世界網站或直接掃碼(見右)進入大賽報名界面【請盡量通過PC端操作】,根據提示填寫報名信息并繳納相關報名費。
4.報名后沒有成功繳費的,所投稿件無法進入評審程序。
5. 因人力所限,繳費后無論是否提交參賽譯文,費用概不退還,繳費時務請注意。
投稿規范
1.個人信息表及參賽譯文于截稿日之前以附件形式發送至電子郵箱:yysjfyds@sina.com 。
2.郵件主題:參賽者姓名+×××(×××為報名手機號,下同)。
3.個人信息表:文件名“×××個人信息”,excel格式,附件發送。請掃碼(見右)下載填寫。
4.參賽譯文:文件名“×××英譯漢”或“×××漢譯英”,word格式,附件發送;同時參加兩項比賽,請發送兩個word附件,請勿合并成一個文件。
5.參賽譯文格式:宋體(英譯漢)/Times New Roman(漢譯英),黑色,小四號,1.5倍行距,兩端對齊。譯文每段之前請務必添加編號【1】【2】【3】……(如原文所示)。
6.參賽譯文中請勿留下任何個人信息,否則匿名評審過程中將被提前淘汰。
評審保障制度
為保證大賽評審的公平、公正和透明,盡量保證評審結果的客觀和可靠,本屆大賽在評審過程中特別設立以下制度:
1.合辦單位回避制度:合辦院校本校參賽稿的初評概由《英語世界》編輯部負責評審,而不交由合辦院校本校教師評審。
2.申訴復活制度:初審后的擬定復審入圍名單通過《英語世界》微信公眾號發布后,未能進入該名單的參賽者3日內有權提出申訴。提出申訴需另交90元的二次評審費用,申訴稿將邀請三位外部專家獨立負責二次評審;二次評審發現確屬初評失誤的,將退還二次評審費用,否則費用不予退還。大賽會根據申訴稿二次評審結果重新公布最終的復審入圍名單。

英譯漢原文:
The Tragedy of Climate Change

【1】Tragedies on the stage take place over a limited period of time. The protagonist is presented with a dilemma. He makes a choice. Terrible consequences rapidly ensue. As soon as Macbeth kills King Duncan, he is damned—his drunken porter turns his castle into hell, and unnatural signs of turmoil, such as horses eating each other, follow that same night. So swift is the action in the Scottish play that Macbeth and his wife want to speed up time, doing the deed “quickly”, feeling the “future in the instant” or willing to “jump the life to come”. The play hurtles towards its conclusion as the prophecies of the three witches come to pass, with devastating neatness.
【2】But the tragedy of environmental disaster unfolds along a much more extended timescale. The bleaching of the coral reefs, the shrinking of the Arctic polar ice, the extreme droughts and floods taking place worldwide, are symptoms and portents of decisions already taken whose full consequences have not yet been felt.
【3】There is a time lag between carbon emissions and temperature rises: the one-degree increase in the global average temperature is a result of carbon emissions released 40 years ago, while the levels of carbon in the atmosphere right now—about 412 parts per million (ppm) and rising—are enough to cause two degrees of warming by the middle of the century.
【4】This trajectory is also complicated by the so-called climate-change feedback loop. Once the Earth is warmed by more than 2?C, the capacity of plants to absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis will be affected and they will start to puff the gas out instead of taking it in (the carbon feedback loop), causing temperatures to rise further.
【5】The tragic narrative of climate change is much lengthier than tragic plots in the theatre, and stretches the connections between cause and consequence, transgression and punishment. It resembles Prometheus, nailed to his rock in Aeschyluss play, knowing that centuries in the future his defiance will ensure the toppling of his enemy, Zeus. He knows the secret cause of Zeuss overthrow from prophetic signs he can detect in the here and now, but is reluctant to divulge it. So the immovable fate of Zeus and Prometheus turns out to be based upon Prometheuss will, and upon the brinkmanship between the two.
【6】Climate change is not our problem, we tell ourselves. It is for future generations to worry about. But if we view climate change as a tragic narrative that can be read and interpreted in the same way as an Aeschylean or Shakespearean play, then we might think about time, fate and individual responsibility differently.
【7】Tragic plots revolve around the moment when the hero makes the wrong choice. Macbeth kills the king; Oedipus murders his father; Prometheus steals fire from the gods. Fate plays a part in determining these decisions but each man also has free will and voluntarily enters into his chosen course of action. In Aeschyluss Oresteia, Agamemnon willingly puts his head into the “yoke of necessity”, uniting free will and destiny. Prometheus revels in his free will and capacity for defiance. These tragic narratives forge the connections between the individual and the world, between the small choices we each make and the huge, inevitable consequences they unleash.
【8】According to the writer and former soldier Roy Scranton, we have to treat existence as a tragedy to which we are stoically resigned. “We can learn to see each day as the death of what came before, freeing ourselves to deal with whatever problems the present offers without attachment or fear,” he writes.
【9】Nevertheless, there exists an alternative way to think about climate crisis. Aeschylus does not shy away from confronting the weakening power of human agency in the face of the vast inhuman forces of time, place and destiny. But still he leaves room in his dramatic vision of the world for contingency, for resistance and responsibility. Progress is dependent upon each characters knowledge and acknowledgement of the vagaries of self-deception or engagement.
【10】We are not “free” to detach ourselves, but rather remain vitally attached, through tragic witness, to those “crawling glaciers”, to those signs of the past, present and future and to our own capacity for action.

【1】“書香”一詞,古已有之。原指古人為防蠹蟲咬食書籍,便在書中放置一種蕓香草,這種草有一種清香之氣,夾有這種草的書籍打開之后清香襲人,故而稱之為“書香”,后常常被人們引申為讀書風氣。
【2】閱讀所品味出的書香,是源自心靈的味道。是世間的人情冷暖,是豐富的道德情操,是悠久的文化傳承,是壯麗的大好河山……每一本書,訴說的是一個故事,一種情懷。而每一個故事包含著不同的酸甜苦辣,每一種情懷包含著不同的理想!所以,我尊重每一本書,努力地去讀懂它,品味它的那份真誠。
【3】古有“萬般皆下品,唯有讀書高”,今有“人生因書香而精彩,生命因書香而富有”。古有讀書者懸梁刺股,鑿壁借光,而今亦有“廁所被窩讀書者”,這是對知識的渴望,亦是對生命的尊敬。不能說人生會因為沒有讀書而毫無意義,但可以確定人生會因為讀書而絢麗多彩,人生的道路上,讀書是一件多么高雅、多么純潔的事情啊。
【4】上學時,最歡欣雀躍的日子,莫過于發新書的那天。嶄新的課本,新鮮的知識……尤其是新書那特有的油墨香,格外吸引人。
【5】淡淡的墨香像淘氣的精靈一樣,在鼻翼前挑逗,讓我們捧起了書,就再也放不下。那里,有江河大海的氣息,有塵土月光的痕跡,有悲歡離合的滋味……心沉下去,情浮上來,眼睛打開了去,那或苦悶,或歡暢,或蹙眉,或拍案的萬千氣象都奔涌而來。安靜地坐在書桌前,看風起云涌,讀花開花落,這是一種怎樣的物我兩忘境界?。?/p>
【6】讀書是一種修行,一種享受,它帶給我們的是雋永的感受,恒久的動力,以及心靈的和平與精神的慰藉。當然,要做到這些,還需自我改變,也需要全社會共同營造讀書的氛圍。我們需要更多的圖書館、更多的閱讀空間、更便捷的取閱方式,只有當我們真正體會了閱讀的樂趣,而書籍又唾手可得時,我們才能做到:書香隨身,書香隨心。
