“省略”講解與訓練

“省略（Ellipsis）”是第三單元Diverse cultures的語法項目。請先看兩個例句：

While ironing clothes， Miss Good accidentally touched the iron.

Remove clothing using scissors if necessary unless it is stuck to the burn.

從中發現，While ironing和if necessary省略了某些成分。首先，我們應該清楚“省略”的概念。為了使語言簡潔或避免重復， 省略句子中的一個或幾個句子成分， 這種語法現象稱為“省略”。按照省略的部分可分為句子成分的省略和詞的省略。其次，弄清楚在哪些方面可以省略，簡單句中的省略、感嘆句中的省略、對話中的省略、并列句中的省略、復合句中的省略以及復合句中引導詞的省略。

一、簡單句中的省略

1. 祈使句中省略主語。例如：

Beg your pardon. 請您原諒。/ 請再說一遍。

2. 感嘆句中通常省略謂語。例如：

What a hot day （it is）！ 多么熱的一天！

3. 對話中的省略。例如：

—Do you know Mr Li？ 你認識李先生嗎？

—I dont know （him）. 不認識。

二、并列句中的省略

1. 并列句中省略謂語。例如：

Some of us study Japanese; others （study） English. 我們中有些人學習日語，有些人學習英語。

2. 并列句中省略相同成分。例如：

Im not watching TV， but my mother is （watching TV）. 我現在不在看電視，但是我媽媽在看。

3. 以so， nor， neither開頭的分句，句中常出現省略。例如：

If you dont go there， nor / neither shall I （go there）. 如果你不去那兒，我也不去。

三、復合句中的省略

復合句中的省略是語法學習的難點，也是語法學習過程中的高頻考點。最常見的狀語從句中的省略，主要有三種情況：

1. 當狀語從句的主語與主句的主語相同，而且從句謂語動詞含有be的形式時，可以將從句中相同的主語和be的形式省略。例如：

When （water is） pure， water is a colorless liquid. 水純凈時，是無色的液體。

2. 當時間、條件、讓步、方式等狀語從句的主語和主句的主語一致或是it時，而且從句謂語中含有be動詞時，可以省略狀語從句中的主語和be動詞的形式。常見省略有if / when necessary， if / when possible等。例如：

Dont speak until （you are） spoken to. 有人和你說話時你再說。

Come tomorrow if （it is） possible. 如果可能的話，就明天來吧。

Though （she is） still rather weak， she studies very hard. 她盡管體弱，但學習仍十分努力。

She stood at the gate as if （she was） waiting for someone. 她站在門口好像在等人。

3. 用so或not代替上文內容，可用if so， if not省略句式。例如：

I may be free this evening. If so （=if I may be free this evening）， Ill come round and see you. 今晚我可能有空。如果有空，我會過來看你。

Get up early tomorrow. If not （=If you dont get up early tomorrow）， you will miss the first bus. 明天要早起。如果不早起，你就趕不上首班公共汽車。

4. that定語從句中作賓語時可省略，但在賓語從句中第一個that可省略，第二個that不能省略。

四、不定式的省略

1. 在一定的上下文中，為了避免重復，可以省去不定式中與前面句子中相同的動詞（短語），只保留不定式符號to。否定形式的省略用not to。但如果不定式中含有be， have， have been，通常保留be， have或have been。例如：

I asked him to see the movie， but he didnt want to （see the movie）. 我叫他看電影，但是他不想看。

—Are you a sailor？ 你是水手嗎？

—No， but I used to be（a sailor）. 不是，但我過去是。

2.在某些形容詞glad， happy， pleased，delighted等后面使用不定式符號to來代替整個不定式。例如：

—Will you join in the game？ 你愿意做這個游戲嗎？

—Id be glad to （join in the game）. 我很高興做。

3.在do nothing but， cant help but， why not， would rather... than...， prefer to do... rather than...等句型中省略to。例如：

He did nothing but wait all the time. 他除了一直等著什么事都沒做。

I. 將下列句中的省略部分補全。

1. When split， an atom can release energy.

II. 語法填空。運用所學語法“省略”，用所給單詞的正確形式填空。

1. Video games can be a poor influence if ___ （leave） in the wrong hands.

2. Look out for cars when ___ （cross） the street.

3. As ___ （plan）， the meeting will be held next month.

4. When ___ （heat）， water can be changed into steam.

5. The medicine is quite effective if ___ （take） on time.

III. 根據所給漢語完成句子，每空一詞。
