

With a scroll painting of a centurys splendor unfolded along the Changan Avenue lined with flowerbeds, and with the tune of centenary celebration music still lingering over the illuminated night view of the Tiananmen Square, in the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People one finds the Beijing main venue of the CPC and World Political Parties Summit, having in view a huge LED screen interacting live with hundreds of smaller ones, and the Party flag of the CPC and flags of other political parties the world over adding radiance and beauty to one another in a big array of 400 flags. At 20:30 on July 6, 2021, general secretary Xi Jinping of the CPC Central Committee also Chinese President walked into the Golden Hall to the standing ovation and thunderous applause from the audience, leaders of world political parties participating via video links , old and new friends of the CPC included.
The Summit was themed “For the Peoples Wellbeing: The Responsibility of Political Parties”, at which General Secretary Xi Jinping made a keynote address titled “Strengthening Cooperation Among Political Parties to Jointly Pursue the Peoples Wellbeing”, emphasizing that political parties, as an important force behind human progress, need to set the right course forward and shoulder their historic responsibility to ensure the peoples wellbeing and pursue human progress. The CPC stands ready to work with world political parties to be always builders of world peace, advocates for global development, and guardians of the international order.
The Summit combined online and offline events, taking online for the main and offline for the auxiliary. Leaders of over 500 political parties and political organizations from more than 160 countries participated in the Summit. Also attending were more than 10,000 party representatives and representatives of people from all walks of life. The Summit had 21 leaders of world political parties delivered speeches online, and hundreds of delegates to the Summit contributed their remarks to the website of the Summit in written form or video clips. The Summit also came up with a Joint Statement of Proposals, expressing the common aspirations of all parties in attendance to safeguard the peace of the world, promote common development, and enhance the peoples wellbeing.
Present at the Summit were Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Yang Xiaodu, Chen Xi, Huang Kunming and Cai Qi, members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. The Summit was presided over by Song Tao, minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
A Meeting of Broad Representation and Unprecedented Scale
Following the High-Level Dialogue between the CPC and World Political Parties of 2017, the CPC and World Political Parties Summit was another grand gathering in the history of relations between global political parties, a global political parties meeting of the highest standing and the largest scale ever hosted by the CPC. Invited to address the Summit were among others, Ramaphosa, president of the African National Congress and president of South Africa, Nazarbayev, chairman of the Nur Otan Party and Kazakhstans first president, Medvedev, chairman of the United Russia party and deputy chairman of Russian Security Council, Fernandez, president of the Justicialist Party and president of Argentina, Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of Cuba, Duterte, chairman of the PDP-Laban party and Philippine president, Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian Peoples Party and prime minister of Cambodia, Mnangagwa, chairman and first secretary of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front and Zimbabwean president, Abbas, chairman of the Fatah party and president of the State of Palestine, Vucic, president of the Serbian Progressive Party and president of Serbia, Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and prime minister of Pakistan, Nyusi, leader of the Mozambique Liberation Front Party and Mozambican president, Geingob, leader of the South West Africa Peoples Organization (SWAPO) and president of Namibia, Sassou, chairman of Congolese Labour Party and president of the Republic of the Congo, Mahinda Rajapaksa, leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party and prime minister of Sri Lanka, Morales, chairperson of Bolivias Movement Towards Socialism party and former Bolivian president, Othmani, general secretary of the Justice and Development Party and Moroccan prime minister, Kiir, chairman of the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement and president of South Sudan, Papandreou, president of the Socialist International, and Centella, president of the Communist Party of Spain.
Besides the main venue of the Summit at the Great Hall of the People, a branch venue was set up at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse where more than a hundred foreign envoys and diplomats were invited to attend together with representatives of foreign businesses in China. At the same time, other domestic branch venues were put in place in Shanghai, Yanan in Shaanxi, Shenzhen in Guangdong, Ningde in Fujian, and Anji in Zhejiang, all being locations of special significance in the journey of the CPC over the past hundred years.
Through channels of the Internet and television, the Summit was broadcast live in 16 languages all over the world. Political parties in over a hundred countries set up in their own countries respectively about 200 collective venues, some of which were as large as venues of their party congresses. For instance, the Serbian branch venue was right in the headquarters of the Serbian Progressive Party, attended by about 300 hardcore party members. The Turkish Patriotic Party (VP) took the special measure of organizing 30 collective venues for some 1,200 party officials to attend the Summit online. There were still some other countries such as Dominica, where leaders of major parties both in government and opposition transcended political differences, with nearly one hundred political figures sitting together to attend the Summit and appear in a historic “same frame”.
It would be worth noting that on the eve of the Summit, more than 600 political parties, political and other organizations from over 170 countries had sent 1,500-plus congratulatory messages and letters on the CPCs centenary, highly regarding the historic development achievements in all areas in China and important contributions to the cause of human progress made by the CPC over the past hundred years and especially since its 18th National Congress under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core.
As an unprecedented grand gathering of global political parties, the Summit attracted great attention of leaders of all participating parties from various countries. Medvedev and Ivan Melnikov, first deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma, first deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, and chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association, made a special trip to a special venue of the Summit in the permanent on-site museum of the 6th CPC National Congress in a suburban area to the south of Moscow. As an “iron friend” of the CPC, Hun Sen specifically placed his venue at the official prime ministerial residence as an expression of “kin feelings”, underlining his position of standing firmly by the CPC and the Chinese people. To ensure his attendance at the Summit all the way, Othmani made special coordination with Moroccan House of Counsellors and House of Representatives to alter the time for him to report the government work to the parliament. Party and political leaders of the Pacific island nations like Loughman, leader of the Vanuaaku Pati and prime minister of Vanuatu had to overcome time differences and went online for the Summit deep into the night local time. Overcoming effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and time differences and going beyond cultural, systematic and ideological differences, representatives of all participating parties from various countries gathered together, reached for the “cloud”, talked about the future, enhanced communication, and built consensus in making political parties contributions to the cause of human progress.

He made it clear that political parties should take up the “five responsibilities” of steering the course, building consensus, promoting development, enhancing cooperation, and improving governance. He avowed that the CPC will make fresh contributions to humanitys search for ways to modernize, to shared development and prosperity for all countries in the world, to improving the wellbeing of mankind, and to humanitys joint response to common challenges. He emphasized that “we need to heed the voices of the people, follow the trend of the times and strengthen coordination and cooperation. By doing so, the interests of the people of one country will be kept in line with those of all others and humanity will move forward towards a shared future”.
In their addresses to the Summit, leaders of political parties from various countries spoke highly of General Secretary Xi Jinpings important speech, much appreciated the CPCs aspirations of the people above all else, its sense of responsibility, and its achievements, sincerely thanked the Chinese side for assistance in their fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, and highly affirmed Chinas exemplary role in promoting international cooperation against the COVID-19 outbreak and in building a community with a shared future for mankind. One after another, they indicate their willingness to work with the CPC,? have and hold the common values of humanity, and shoulder the historic responsibility of political parties. Imran Khan remarked that only by serving the people wholeheartedly can a political party win popular support, as very well proven by the practice of the CPC. Diaz-Canel pointed out that the key for China to effectively cope with the COVID-19 outbreak and successfully eradicate absolute poverty rests with the CPCs people centered development philosophy and its efficient work. Vucic held that the great creativity displayed by the CPC in the process of developing the country gives inspiration and hope for all countries in the world. Sassou observed that guided by the thinking of Xi Jinping to build a community with a shared future for mankind, the cause of progress in China has produced positive effects on global economic and social development, facilitating various countries in the world to move toward common development, and that it would be unthinkable whither the world without China. Geingob remarked that the SWAPO party of Namibia has officially written into its constitution “Socialism with Namibian Characteristics” as its guiding ideology, wishing to learn from General Secretary Xi Jinpings thinking on the governance of China, especially his important propositions on targeted poverty alleviation and striving to make the dream of the fight against poverty in the country come true.
The Summit happened to fall on the 81st birthday of Nazarbayev, who spoke through the LED screen affectionately recalling his vivid memories of General Secretary Xi Jinping proposing the great concept of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) during his visit to Kazakhstan in 2013, and pointed out that the BRI and the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind initiated by General Secretary Xi Jinping have been well received and gained traction, enjoying broad attention and general recognition of the international community. Mahinda Rajapaksa took the initiative to arrange leaders of all parties in his government coalition and cabinet ministers to accompany him to attend the Summit and displayed to General Secretary Xi Jinping through video links “the centennial of a great cause” commemorative coins, a special issuance of the central bank of Sri Lanka to mark the centennial of the CPC. Xanana, president of the National Congress for the Reconstruction of Timor-Leste and founding father of Timor-Leste, was overjoyed to see his closeup picture in front of General Secretary Xi Jinping and organized high officials of his party to cut the cake together to celebrate the CPCs birthday and to collectively read aloud their congratulatory letter to General Secretary Xi Jinping. Respectively, the participants to the Summit thanked the CPC for organizing this grand gathering of global political parties, which enabled them to exchange views on common concerns and common challenges, and gather forces of global political parties in pursuing the peoples wellbeing.
General Secretary Xi Jinping carefully listened to every foreign speaker, nodding and smiling from time to time. It was midnight before one had noticed. “The CPC is willing to share with political parties of all countries modernization experience to enrich each others toolbox to modernization for better ensuring the wellbeing of their own people and all other peoples.” In the about 4-hour video Summit, leaders of various political parties came to the agreement that under the new historical circumstances, it is the common responsibility and direction of efforts for all parties to enable the people to achieve their wellbeing, mutually enhance the wellbeing of each other, and realize the vision of a diversified and harmonious world.
A Meeting Promoting Progress and Having
Far-reaching Influence
On the occasion of the centennial of the founding of the CPC, General Secretary Xi Jinping had a cloud summit with many leaders of foreign political parties and met more than 10,000 party representatives across the world in the cloud event, focusing on the peoples wellbeing, exploring the responsibility of political parties, and underscoring the fact that the CPC is a political party that seeks the Chinese peoples wellbeing and one that strives for the cause of human progress. It is generally held by the participants that the Summit is of great significance in the history of the development of world political parties and has a far-reaching influence.
Shortly after the Summit, Ramaphosa sent 20 tweets from his Twitter account, giving his thoughts on attending the Summit and he believed that putting first the peoples needs and interests is the source of the CPCs historic achievements. Diaz-Canel sent seven tweets running remarking that under the leadership of the CPC, China has continued to develop and become prosperous and strong, becoming a important force for world peace and security, and playing an admirable exemplary role; that it is precisely because of the CPC and the Peoples Republic of China that the revolutionary, progressive and left wing forces have a major country to rely on; and that under the current, increasingly complicated international situation, the convocation of the Summit was timely and highly necessary, being an important encouragement for left wing and progressive forces the world over.
The important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the Summit drew warm response in various countries. Azizi, first deputy-chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party of Tajikistan and Vulin, president of the Movement of Socialists and the Interior Minister of Serbia considered the keynote address by General Secretary Xi Jinping as rich in content, being of high strategic value, a profound summary of the successful experiences of the CPC over the past hundred years, and worth serious learning by every political party that is engaged in promoting development and advancing the peoples wellbeing in its own country. Shaningwa, secretary-general of the SWAPO Party of Namibia and Tang Zhimin, director of China-ASEAN Studies, Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Thailand regarded the important speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping as both ideological and instructive, being an important public good provided by the CPC to world political parties, and believed that General Secretary Xi Jinping views the world from a perspective of equality and openness, displaying the grand architecture and great vision of the CPC as the worlds largest ruling party.
Keiji Sato, president of Japan-China Friendship Association, Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, Japan had donated to the Chinese side in 2015 from his collection a copy of the first Japanese edition of the Communist Manifesto published in 1906, which served as a reference book for Chen Wangdao to translate the Chinese version of the Communist Manifesto more than a century ago. After participating in the Summit, Keiji Sato, 91, spoke in great excitement that it is his deep feeling the CPC has unswervingly put into practice its original mission to seek happiness for the Chinese people and work for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, that only the CPC is entitled to keep the treasured document that is on the verge of becoming the only copy, and that he expects the Chinese side to carry forward the great spirit ofthe Communist Manifesto, make still greater achievements in promoting Chinas economic and social development, and make even greater contributions to prosperity, stability and development of the world.
The Summit this time around facilitated the CPC and political parties of various countries to share experience of governing the countries, promoted state-to-state coordination and cooperation through party-to-party mutual learning, and brought into better play due role of political parties in global governance. Tymoshenko, leader of the All-Ukrainian Union Fatherland (Batkivschyna) party and Seeborun, president of the F.A.L.C.O.N Association of Mauritius believed that the Summit has provided an important platform for the cooperation of political parties of various countries in meeting global challenges facing mankind, and that its Joint Statement of Proposals has found the greatest common divisor for solidarity and cooperation among all parties. Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and Zhirinovsky, leader the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia remarked that the successful convocation of the Summit is an important international event, among whose participants are not only communist parties but also democratic and liberal parties that are different in ideology, and that, most importantly, it provides an opportunity for leaders of political parties of various countries to elaborate their views to the world, underlining the great moral appeal and international influence of the CPC.
“Those who only seek comfort for themselves will ultimately be rejected and those who sacrifice their own interests for the success of others will be supported.” To date, historic changes have happened to the relations between the CPC and the world. Under the strong leadership of its Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, the CPC, as the worlds largest governing party with considerable global influence, upholds its aspirations and sense of responsibility as a major party in a major country and will as always work with political parties and political organizations of all countries to stand on the right side of history and the progressive side of mankind, continuing to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and jointly create a better world.
