Wenjiang Agricultural Hi-tech Park Jintang is a demonstration eldercare project in Wenjiang District of Chengdu, part of the AIP (aging in place) program by Vanke in the southwest of China.Always dedicated to explorations in eldercare,Vanke hopes to put lives in the hands of nature and the universe and demonstrate a desired new ecosystem of eldercare. The process of thinking and surveying was conducted in the early stage of the project. As the furnishing art designer,Changemo surveyed a number of senior’s well-being projects together with Japan’s expert team AJN and visited the elder group in Chengdu to understand their life and needs. It defined a forward-looking expression and mission for the project:Our life in nursing homes should allow us to live a second life.
In interior art,Changemo celebrates a design experience that can be perceived rather than seen to strengthen the spatial expression of memory and scene through an invisible design concept. From the perspective of five senses, the designer pays full attention to the behavioral model and physical and mental needs in relation to the space. As a result, the folk cultures of the period between the 1930s and the 1960s are used as a context for the design. The ability for cross-cultural comprehension and the introduction of new design approaches deliver a result that bears the older generation’s memories about the past and allows the space and emotions to resonate in a natural, peaceful and modern ambiance.
The Experience Center is the top highlight of the project. The courtyard with gingko trees is a reproduction of the scene in the traditional teahouse of Chengdu, with a complete set of the lid, bowl and tray under the shade. While the chess players keep silent, the onlookers are loud and noisy. All arrangements seek a kind of harmony between people and nature:the unadorned red-brick walls, the naturally opened and closed sliding shoji doors...Sunlight is smartly used under the gingko tree, extending the companionship of nature to the place throughout all seasons.Changemo collaborates with a number of artists to insert into the whole sales center artworks that accord with local culture and other artistic and cultural elements that are suitable for spatial expression.
