Recent years have seen dramatic changes in the way of education. According to a Shanghai University survey， close to three quarters （74.3%） of respondents reported having taken online courses in the past five years.

Advances in technology are the driving force behind the changes. In the past， if you wanted to get a diploma or a certificate， you had to sign up for courses at a brick-and-mortar institution and physically attend class. But with the rise of the Internet， education is available anytime and anywhere as long as you have a computer and an internet connection. Another contributing factor is the outbreak of Covid-19， which accelerated the revolution in education. With schools shut across the world in the wake of Covid-19， millions of students had to shift from the conventional learning model to low-contact online learning.
