During the National Day holiday, a 16-minutevideo clip of a junior Huawei recruit creating "ironman's" robotic arm went viral on Chinese social mediaplatforms. Peng Zhihui, also known as "Zhihuijun" onChinese video-sharing platform Bilibili, posted thevideo showing the process and design of creating arobotic arm which he nicknames "Dummy". It can beremotely controlled using Huawei's 5G technology.According to Peng, "Dummy" is a 6-axis miniindustrialrobot arm with a total cost of only 10,000 yuan ($1,552). The project has been the mostcomplicated project Peng has undertaken so far andtook him about four months to complete. The videoattracted more than 2.5 million views on and 10,000comments on Bilibili as of press time. Peng joinedHuawei in November 2020 through the Chinese techgiant's so-called "Geniuses" recruitment program asan AI algorithm engineer.

A concrete bookstore under construction inWisdom Bay innovation park in Shanghai will bethe first 3D-printed bookstore in China. He Yuting, responsible for this project, said the bookstore wasprinted on-site in three weeks. Compared with simpleworks such as a 3D-printed flower basin, the bookstoreis an innovative attempt in the architecture field, as the3D-printed architecture is cheaper than conventionalconstruction techniques and saves time. What makesthis bookstore so unique, is that "we used fiber concreteto resist compression," He said, noting that the flooralso has a heating system. He said the 3D-printedbookstore is as safe as traditional concrete constructionbased on their experimental data in terms of structureand earthquake resistance.

An Egyptian engineer has invented a robot thatcan extract potable water by condensing humidity inthe air and turn it into drinking water using artificialintelligence. The engineer said he started to think aboutdeveloping this technology to absorb moisture in the airand turn it into water since 2013. He was inspired byNASA's flights to Mars. The weather on Mars is knownto be saturated with high levels of humidity, whileis very dry at the same time. He said the technologyof generating water from moisture is not new, butthe technologies available now are not capable ofoperating in difficult conditions. He said the devicecan be used in the desert and get power through solarpanels, thus, many cities in the desert can be reclaimedwithout high costs. The Egyptian engineer noted thatdesalinating sea water is very costly as each liter costsaround 20 U.S. cents, while the cost of generating aliter of water by his device costs only 1.5 cents.
