How many sports can you name？ Do they have anything in common？ Is the sport played on a field or in the water？ Does it involve a ball or a paddle or a racket？ How are the points won？

There are many sports and many ways to group them. Sometimes a sport belongs to several categories， but here are some of the most common types.

你能說出多少種運動？它們有什么共同點？是陸地運動，還是水上運動？要不要用到球、槳或者球拍呢？怎樣才能得分？

世界上有許多種體育運動，也有多種分類方式。有時，一種體育運動也可屬于多種類別。以下是我們常見到的運動分類。

Ball games are sports such as football， tennis， water polo， golf， softball， bowling， handball， table tennis and baseball. The list is very long because it includes all individual and team sports that involve the use of a ball.

Extreme sports， also known as action or adventure sports， is a general term for activities involving speed， height and danger. Skydiving， windsurfing and BASE jumping are some well-known examples.

Athletics or track and field events are a very well-known type of sport. Individual and team activities from this category include running， sprints， marathons， long jump， discus throw， hurdles， etc.

球類運動是指諸如足球、網球、水球、高爾夫、壘球、保齡球、手球、乒乓球和棒球之類的體育運動。五花八門的球類運動包含個人運動和團體運動，但共同點就是——要有一個球。

極限運動是某些講求速度、高度且具有一定危險性的運動項目的統稱。跳傘、帆板運動和低空跳傘都是大家所熟知的極限運動。

田徑運動算是一個眾所周知的運動類別了。這一類別下的個人和團體運動包括長跑、短跑、馬拉松、跳遠、擲鐵餅和跨欄賽跑等。

Gymnastics includes the artistic events we see in the Olympic Games， such as the balance beam， still rings and floor gymnastics. Sports like trampolining and skipping also fall under this category.

Sports can also be categorized according to the environment they take place in. One example is water sports. Swimming， rowing， diving， surfing and wakeboarding are some of the most popular activities of this type.

Seasons also influence the types of sports we can play. Winter sports， such as ice hockey， skiing， figure or speed skating and curling can only take place where theres ice and snow. This is why we have both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics.

These are just a few of the many types of sports that you can try. Sports are really important to our health and study， so make some time to do sports every day.

運動項目也可按場地來分類，比如水上運動。游泳、賽艇、潛水、沖浪和水上滑板都是很受歡迎的水上運動。
