Big action! India developed more than 500 standards for technical textiles

At the 5th National Conclave on Standards for Technical Textiles in New Delhi, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently formulated more than 500 standards for Indian technical textiles, and about 40 standards are in the pipeline. "The Bureau of Industry and Safety of the Ministry of Commerce is working out the Standards National Action Plan (SNAP) from 2022 to 2027, and the technical textiles included in the SNAP have become an important theme", said Rajeev Sharma, deputy director general of BIS.

Due to the cost—effectiveness, durability and versa—tility of technical textiles, India is expected to become a key market with increasing consumption. At the meet—ing, Indian Textile Minister Upendra Prasad Singh said that technical textiles are a sunrise sector, and India will focus on the research and development of technical tex—tiles under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) to improve the penetration of high value—added products in the domestic market.

India is known as one of the locomotives of the world textile industry, and the demand for its techni—cal textiles in India could be imagined. With the surge of middle class population, it is expected that the demand for all kinds of textiles will increase. As an important part of technical textiles, the consumption and export of nonwovens in India have increased sig—nificantly in recent years.

The QCOs will be mandatory and will be formulated in consultation with the industry, an official release said. The conclave was jointly organised by the Federation of Indian chambers of Commerce and Industry, the textiles ministry and BIS.

At present, the industry in India still faces many obstacles, such as poor infrastructure, low labor effi—ciency, and difficult access to capital. However, the Indian government pays great attention to innovative projects, and has listed the development of nonwovens and other industries as the national development plan, and invested a lot of money in research and development in the industry. In addition, India's national defense, safety, health, roads and other infrastructure construction also provide huge business opportunities for technical textile industry and enterprises.
