The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opens at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on October 16, 2022.
The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) convened from October 16 to 22, 2022. The report delivered by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, at the congress underscored the central task of the Party, calling for efforts to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. Laying out the main objectives and tasks for the next five years and beyond, the congress also sent a clear signal to the world that China will continue seeking ways to promote world peace and development and build a human community with a shared future.
The first plenum of the 20th CPC Central Committee following the national congress elected the new leadership of the CPC. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, when meeting the press together with the other newly elected members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 20th CPC Central Committee, said, “Having completed its building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, China is now taking confident strides on a new journey to turn the country into a modern socialist country in all respects.”
The CPC and the Chinese people have sought long and hard to pursue a Chinese path to modernization, and on the journey that lies ahead, the Party must always act for the people and rely on them in everything it does, Xi said.
Just as China cannot develop in isolation from the world, the world needs China for its development, he said, adding that the Chinese economy would remain on the positive trajectory over the long run, and that the country will open its door wider to the rest of the world.
