Jesus Osuna Sanz, president of the Spain-China Friendship Association (SCFA), paid a friendly visit to Beijing, Chongqing and Tibet from May 9 to 27. It was the first visit to China he made at the invitation of the CPAFFC with the purposes of furthering mutual understanding and discussing future cooperation between the two organizations.
In his meeting with President Osuna, CPAFFC President Chen Haosu said that the SCFA has for years done a great deal of work to promote the friendship, understanding and contact between the people of China and Spain. He expressed the hope that the SCFA would play a more important role in bilateral exchanges. President Osuna thanked President Chen for the invitation and said that 2007 saw the 20th anniversary of the SCFA and that the SCFA would take it as a new starting point to advance in a comprehensive way the friendly and cooperative relations with the CPAFFC.
When meeting with President Osuna, Vice Chairman Nima Ciren of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Government briefed him on the tremendous achievements Tibet has scored since reform and opening up. The two sides had in-depth discussions on matters of cooperation such as encouraging the Potala Palace in Tibet and the Alhambra Palace in Spain to twin friendship ties, inviting the Tibetan folk art troupe to make a performance tour in Spain, promoting Spanish tourists to come to Tibet, etc. They were fully confident in the bright prospects of cooperation between the SCFA and Tibet.
