At the invitation of the CPAFFC, David Musila, deputy speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly, paid a visit to Beijing, Shandong and Sichuan from July 5 to 12, 2007.
Abdul’ahat Abdurixit, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with David Musila and his party. At the CPAFFC, Deputy Speaker Musila gave a speech entitled Kenya-China Relations and the Chinese Enterprises’ Development in Kenya and Their Contribution to the Kenyan Society. The Kenyan delegation paid official calls on Zhang Yesui, vice foreign minister, and Wang Jinxiang, vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission and deputy director of the Office of the Leading Group for Western Region Development of the State Council, and visited the main sports venues of the Olympic Games, the exhibition of the Olympic Games and the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall.
Gao Xinting, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial People’s Congress, and Cui Xizhu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Qingdao Municipal People’s Congress, met with the delegation on separate occasions. The delegation visited some small and medium-sized enterprises including a software park, a flour mill, a hardware factory, a toy factory and the Haier Group Corporation.
Wang Rongxuan, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress, met with David Musila and his party. The delegation visited You’ai Village in Pixian County, the Dujiangyan Irrigation Works, the Qingcheng Mountain Tea Plantation, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Sansheng Flower Village.
In his meeting with Vice Chairman Abdul’ahat Abdurixit, Deputy Speaker Musila said, all the members of the delegation are members of the Kenya-China Friendship Group in the Kenyan National Assembly, working for friendship with China inside and outside the Assembly. The Kenyan National Assembly and the CPPCC represent the people of the two countries and hope to promote understanding and friendship between the two peoples through exchanges between them.
In his speech at the CPAFFC, Musila said, Kenya hopes that Chinese companies will participate in Kenya’s development. Kenya is now in a period of rapid development. The Kenyan Government is making large investments in infrastructure. China and Kenya have signed a number of agreements. All this has created conditions for the Chinese companies to enter Kenya.
Joshua Toro, assistant minister of road and public works, met with the executives of the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), the 10th Bureau of the CRCC and the Sichuan Road Bridge (Group) Co. Ltd. Assistant Minister Toro said, the Kenyan Government attaches great importance to road construction and hopes that Chinese companies will participate in the bid.
Deputy Speaker Musila was satisfied with the visit. He said that during the visit they had a comprehensive on-the-spot study of the implementation of China’s policy of reform and opening up and achieved very good results. They would earnestly continue to study and learn from China’s experience after returning home. Wherever the delegation went, they experienced the Chinese people’s sincerity and warm-heartedness and were deeply touched by the Chinese people’s hospitality and meticulous arrangements for their reception. He said, their expression of thanks were from the bottom of their hearts not just courteous words. Musila said, after returning home, he would lead the Kenya-China Friendship Group in the National Assembly to continue to work for friendship between the two peoples.
