The Tianjin Municipal People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries organized and sent a delegation consisting of 15 members of the Cathy Future Children’s Art Troupe to attend the International Children’s Camp in Songdowon, DPRK.
This year when the 22nd Songdowon International Children’s Summer Camp was held also witnesses the 96th Anniversary of the Birth of President Kim Il Sung and the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army. Sponsored by the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, the Summer Camp invited children from China, Russia, Poland, Mongolia and Tanzania as well as Korean children who were living overseas, totaling 396. The camp opened on July 30 and closed on August 5, using closed-door and semi-military styles of management. The camp held various activities such as teaching campers to sing the Song of President Kim Il Sung and the Song of General Kim Jong Il, holding gala parties, special art performances on the Asia Day, Africa Day and Europe Day and exhibitions of handicrafts, visiting Exhibitions of President Kim Il Sung’s Life and General Kim Jong Il’s Achievements and watching relevant films, holding competitions of boating, marathon, tug-of-war, basketball shooting and ping pong, and various amusement activities including treasure searching, fishing with a ball on the head, etc. The campers also took a boat tour on the Korean Sea, visited the Tower of President Kim Il Sung’s Juche Idea and the Arch of Triumph and had a gathering with the children at the Pyongyang Children’s Palace. All these activities of the summer camp contributed to enhancing the participants’ understanding of today’s DPRK, which helped to further and promote the exchanges and friendship among children of different countries.
The 15 Chinese campers brought more than 10 items of performance including the Happy Tap Dance, the solo dance Snow-white Feather, the pipa solo Ambush from All Sides, the solo Little Girl of Miao Ethnic Group, the erhu solo Czardas and the song and dance Jasmine Flower. They gave brilliant performances on different occasions and won acclaim of all children. They became angels who spread friendship between the people of China and other countries and publicized China and Tianjin. The head of the delegation and staff members also had wide contacts with members of delegations from other countries, talking about Tianjin and China, making friends and furthering understandings.
During the summer camp, every participant expressed the earnest hope for world peace and made friends with children from different countries. Hand in hand, they presented their talents and skills to each other, leaving each other unforgettable impressions of friendship.
