The premiere of the TV documentary Choe Chi-won was held in Beijing on August 19. The TV documentary, a joint production by the CPAFFC, the Jiangsu Provincial Association for Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries, the Yangzhou Committee of the CPC, the Yangzhou Municipal Government and the Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation, records the life and achievement of the Korean historical figure Choe Chi-won and at the same time introduces the historical background and vivid details of the long China-Korea friendship. Among those present at the premiere were CPAFFC President Chen Haosu and Vice President Feng Zuoku, and Chen Weiqing, head of the Publicity Department of the Yangzhou Committee of the CPC.
Born in the Korean Peninsula, Choe Chi-won was a historical figure of the Korean Silla Dynasty. He came to study in China at the age of 12 in China’s Tang Dynasty and stayed there for 16 years, during which he served as an official in Yangzhou for five years. He spread Chinese culture after he returned home and is regarded as the founder of Chinese literature in the Korean Peninsula, having great influence in the exchanges between China and the Republic of Korea. At present, Choe Chi-won Memorial Hall is under construction in Yangzhou, which is expected to complete in October.
In order to have a comprehensive record of the life of Choe Chi-won, the filming team went to Yangzhou, Xi’an and Luoyang as well as Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju of the Republic of Korea to have interviews. The documentary has two parts and would be broadcast on CCTV in early September.
CPAFFC President Chen Haosu said at the premiere, 2007 sees the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the ROK and is also the Year of China-ROK Exchange. The shooting of the documentary Choe Chi-won will encourage the younger generation to make continuous efforts for the friendship between the two countries.
