From July 14 to 29, the Eurasia Project—2007 Italian Camp was held at the Castle Fusano Country Club in Rome. 52 high school students from Germany, Poland, Italy and China participated in the summer camp.
This year’s activities were similar in design to those of the previous years, including workshops, participants’ offer, group meeting, group competition, group games, internet diary, international evening, parties and travel. The main purposes of the camp were to promote intercultural exchanges and friendship among students, and to raise their project management competence.
The country club where the camp was held could accommodate 2,000 guests. Compared with the previous two years, the camp site occupied a greater area fully 200 mu; there were more non-participants of the camp, over 1,000 of them were staying in the club; and more recreation facilities including a cinema, discotheques, pubs, a theatre, a swimming pool, etc. The forest park and beaches nearby were also ideal places to go for the students.
Other contents of the summer camp included: 1. Script writing, newspaper editing, other media reporting, pantomime study, etc. 2. To encourage the students’ enthusiasm in writing, organizing, etc. there were the Best Publicity Award, the Best Organizing Award and other 6 awards which were issued to the winners at an evening ceremony. 3. In the past summer camps, students from the same country were likely to dine together and talked in their mother tongue. This year, to enhance friendship among the students, Motto Lunch/Dinner was held in various forms. For instance, the students were asked to draw a card before entering the dining hall. Each card had an animal picture on it and those who got the same animal picture on their cards should sit together, and imitate the cry and movements of that animal. In this way, the students were encouraged to communicate and make friends with each other during the meals.
