You must be very familiar with the schedule above, if only, you spend some time in front of computers or TV sets. Yes, this is the schedule of a singing competition known as“Chao Nu”—“Super Voice Girls”. Attention please, not“Super Girls”here.
They cannot use extraordinary powers, nor can they communicate with deities. But on the other way around, when they sing with their souls, you may say that they truly can.
In the finals of the year 2005, SVGs attracted, it is said, more than 10,000,000 votes in total. Fans were crazy to try every possible way, varied from advertising the stars to others by snatching others’ mobile phones to vote, to increase the votes of their beloved stars.
The SVG boiled China and surprised the world. On Oct. 3, 2005, an article about SVG and Li Yuchun, the champion of SVG 2005, was published on“Time Asia”, together with Li’s photograph on the cover. The world exclaimed:“the SVG burns Chinese!”
Youth love to watch the program, so do the middle aged. By watching the SVG, people see that the dream of becoming a star, which once was too far to reach, can be realized if only you give it a shot. People see the girls, who were as normal as themselves, turn super stars. People see a fantasy happen in real world and see an access of their buried dreams.
Not only are the girls the talk of the society. Surfing the internet, more concerned, perhaps, is the system of the competition. People vote and the commission decides. The commission, hired by the organizer, is given strong power to decide the girls’ destinies. Seeing several times that the commission save the least popular competitor and thus influence another one with more votes to leave the stage, some people angered and some got to question the fairness of the competition. Is there any dirty secret hidden? Maybe, but it also can be a means of attracting eyeballs.
The foreign medias, however, care neither of the above but the democratic ideology deep in the competition. Yes, you did read it—democratic ideology. We vote to decide who to become the winner, don’t we? It is democratic election. We get angry if our choice is denied by privilege group, don’t we? It is being angry with autarchy. According to“Time Asia”, SVG is awaking and satisfying our desire of democracy. You may think they are too sensitive about politics, but never should you laugh at them. What they have said is still possible.
Despite all those serious comments, SVG, in itself, is just a show, which is conducted by local TV stations but has become the talk of the country.
I can still remember that once I was in Henan province, knowing that I am from Hunan, everyone greeted me with“which Super Voice Girl do you like best?”They even envied me because they thought I can meet SVGs everywhere in Changsha!
See how much do people in the country love it! No matter what it brings, enjoyment or thoughts, it’s just charming!
