As is known to all， China covers more than 9.6 million square kilometers， which is the third largest country in the world. The Chinese nation consists of 56 nationalities， among which the Han Ethnic Group is the largest， making up 94% of the whole. Besides， there are many big rivers in China， the most important of which are the Yangtze River and the Yellow River. There was a time when Chinese economy was far behind many other countries in the world. However， with the development of the economy， the days are gone forever when the Chinese people were looked down upon， of which all Chinese are proud.

3. 名詞性從句

The news that Tom didn’t attend class this morning spread soon. What surprised us most was that the reason why he gave for his absence from school was that he didn’t finish his homework. Our head teacher Mr. Li believed that Tom shouldn’t have told a lie， for teachers didn’t give any assignment to the students. Accordingly， he made a suggestion that the problem should be discussed at our class meeting. It is likely that Tom may be punished for what he has done.

4. 時態和語態

Our company will be built where there used to be a restaurant in Singapore. Therefore you will be sent there and taken good care of there. In addition， English is spoken throughout Singapore so that you will feel at home this time. However， it is generally considered impolite to ask one’s age， salary and marriage abroad， so you are likely to be criticized for your carelessness. What’s better， when the project is completed， you will get well-paid.

5. 動詞不定式

Tom， student of Class 2， Senior 3， was on his way to school and it struck him that he had forgotten to bring his English book. Should he go back home and get it， which means his being late for school？If not， he was afraid of being scolded by his teacher， so he didn’t know what to do next. He stopped to think of it for a moment and decided to borrow one from John of Class 3. However， he learned that it was very important to check the schoolbag before going to school.

6. -ing形式與-ed形式

Interested in the job， Li Ping decided to join the job interview. I told him that having studied computer was an important qualification in a job interview and that full preparations were needed for the interview. When the day came， brought into an office， he made himself known to the interviewers， and then he was asked a few questions. He was told that they would keep him informed when the result came out. However， he didn’t get the job， but his failing in the job interview didn’t surprise me at all because his not having prepared for the interview made him miss the opportunity.

7. 虛擬語氣

It is strange that Li Ming should throw himself into bed without saying a word. We knew that he failed in the English Competition yesterday after we asked him about it. He said if he had taken the teacher’s advice， he would have succeeded in the competition. If he had won the competition， he would not be so unhappy. We treat him as if he were our own brothers and it’s high time that we did something to comfort him.

8. 倒裝句

January 12， Monday Fine

Hardly had Mary， one of my classmates， got on the bus when she searched all her pockets in order to pay the fare. Try as she might， she couldn’t find any money. Not until then did she realize that she had forgotten to take some money with her， so I paid for her. So grateful was she that she nodded to me. In the afternoon， when I come back to school， placed on my desk was a letter with three Yuan in it， which read: had it not been for your help， I would have been late for school.

9. 省略句

Admitted to Beijing University， Li Bing is now quite well-known all over the city. What is more important， she took the first place in our city in the college entrance examinations. Full of confidence， she had a high goal， but the most important is that she had a good habit of study and a detailed plan. Always willing to help others， she was liked by her teachers as well as her classmates. When asked why she has been able to achieve such a success， she said， if necessary， she would write an essay about her experience for other students to follow.
