Tim: We all have a “super” power， say， I have the power to “read” people and have always been a shrewd judge of character. My sister is always hit on by cute guys wherever she goes. Don’t tell me our superpowers aren’t doing any good to us. You bet!

Jeffery: This got me thinking about when I was younger and how I wished I had superpowers， just like the ace-high superheroes. I’d say if the superpowers could allow us to do great things， it wouldn’t be bad at all.

Tips：這個論題讓Jeffery想起（sth. gets sb. thinking about）自己渴望成為超人的小時候。ace-high意為“最好的，極受崇敬的”，比best程度更加高，類似于我們現在經常聽到的“超級好”。

Ann: I’d like to work miracles—things that range from the mundane to blowing-your-mind. It would keep things interesting and surprising if superpowers really exist. I could probably wipe out the back-seat drivers in my office.

Tips：Ann喜歡創造奇跡（work miracles），不管是the mundane（世俗之事），或是the blowing-your-mind（驚人之事）。她支持超能力是因為那樣的話許多事情會變得有趣、驚異起來，她甚至可以“干掉”（wipe out）自己不喜歡的人。Back-seat driver指的是喜歡從后面指揮別人的人。也就是就是中文常說的“愛管閑事的人”。

Michelle: Goodness? No way! Just look at what fake superpower has done to my cousin—he was so amped up when watching the Superman movie; and even tried to imitate Superman and fly when his parents were not at home. Out comes a broken leg! Big mistake!!!

Tips：No way!可以看出Michelle說“不”的決心可是鐵得很哪。不過，難怪啊，她的cousin就因為看超人電影太興奮了（amped up），連腿都摔斷了，真是應了那句“家中小孩切勿模仿”。come out這個常用短語有“出現，顯露，結果是”之意；而這里用了out come的倒裝結構，表示強調。

Ben: I can’t believe I am asked such a stupid question. It’s as plain as the nose on your face! There is no superpower in reality， nor can it be good at all but costing me an arm and a leg to get the up-for-grabs bat mobile model for my dear son.
