The Story of Touch* 故事梗概

It's a story about baseball， love， dreams and youth. Tatsuya Uesugi and Kazuya Uesugi are twin brothers， and Minami Asakura is the girl next door. The three of them were born in the same year and grew up together. They've always been good friends and have been together since they were kids. After many years， all three of them now go to the same Meisei High School....

The twins look the same but are different inside. Tatsuya has the characteristics of many guys at his age. He is funny， immature1)， subdued2) and lazy. In contrast3)， his younger brother Kazuya is good at studying and is the ace4) pitcher5) of the Meisei High School baseball team. Kazuya is trying to fulfill Minami's and his childhood dream， leading the team all the way6) to Koushien*， a very famous baseball stadium in Japan where the National High School Baseball tournament7) is held every year.

Everyone thinks Kazuya is better than Tatsuya and even Tatsuya disguises8) himself as Kazuya for fun， but Minami says to Tatsuya， \"Tatsuya is Tatsuya! Kazuya is Kazuya!\" She thinks that Tatsuya is unique and has great potential9)， too.

Farewell: All Things Change in the Midst of Summer

On the day of the championships10)， when they are ready to go to Koshien， Kazuya dies. He is run over by an oncoming vehicle when he tries to save a little boy. Kazuya is always so kind-hearted and understanding that his death leaves a great big hole in both Tatsuya's and Minami's hearts forever.

In order to fulfill Kazuya's and Minami's dream， Tatsuya joins the baseball team. At first， everyone doubts his ability， and compares him with Kazuya. Tatsuya changes his long-term laziness and practices really hard. His baseball talents make the others surprised.

Go to Koshien: Be Yourself and Win!

It takes a long time for Tatsuya to realize that he really loves baseball and he is someone special， too. And he also realizes that he can get out of Kazuya's shadow and become someone who can follow his own dreams without giving it all up for others. Tatsuya begins to believe in himself and tries to be himself. Finally， he leads the Meisei High School baseball team to the Koushien and wins. They become the best high school baseball team in all Japan in 1986. Tatsuya fulfills Katsuya's， Minami's and his own dreams.

Touch is a great comic drawn by Mitsuru Adachi from 1981 to 1986. It's more than 20 years old， but it was and still is a favorite of the Asian and the European readers. Touch is sort of like The Catcher in the Rye* which was written by J.D. Salinger in the 1940's. When you read it， although it is outdated in some parts， it's still a story that we can relate to， that we can understand and that we have experienced. Both of them are about ordinary people who live ordinary lives but have a great story to tell， and there are similar feelings we can relate to: the feelings of love and loss， the thrill11) of playing in a competition， the agony12) of defeat and the feeling of just being a kid. Because of these reasons， a story like Touch touches our hearts: we have all wanted to be catchers in the rye.

Brother: Kazuya's Glove

While watching Kazuya practicing baseball hard， Tatsuya knew Kazuya's love of Minami and baseball， so he gave up baseball and hid his love for Minami and baseball in his heart， even though in the very beginning he was the one that was better at baseball. He even encouraged Kazuya to be the best.

During a summer when Kazuya was practicing hard for the championship games， Tatsuya worked at the South Wind cafe. When Tatsuya saw how old and tattered13) Kazuya's baseball glove was， he immediately bought a new baseball glove with all the money he had earned from his job. However， just before Tatsuya was about to give Kazuya the glove， Kazuya told him that Meisei's administration bought the whole team new baseball gloves.

Tatsuya never told Kazuya that he had bought a glove just for him. Instead， he hid that glove in their room. Kazuya didn't know it at all until Minami's father told him that Tatsuya spent all the money he earned just for that glove.

Friend: \"That is a 500 yen coin!\"

Koutarou was Meisei's catcher and was in tune with14) Kazuya's pitches15). He couldn't bear the death of Kazuya and disliked that Tatsuya was so casual about everything. When Tatsuya joined the team， Koutarou told Tatsuya that he was only a worthless copy of his brother. However， Koutarou knew that Tatsuya was serious about baseball when he saw Tatsuya secretly practicing his pitches during his lunch hour.

The start of their friendship happened on a rainy day. When Koutarou asked Tatsuya to hand him his uniform jacket from the other side of the window， Tatsuya habitually16) threw it for Koutarou to catch. The 500 yen coin inside its pocket fell out and rolled down into the sewer17). Koutarou became depressed18) because that 500 yen coin was his life savings and was supposed to be spent on meat buns19). So， even in the rain， he tried to get that coin out of the sewer. Because of the rain， Koutarou fell ill and had to stay in bed. Koutarou begged his mom to buy him meat buns， \"Ah， those meat buns...\" His mother went out to buy buns and came back with a sack full of meat buns almost immediately.

She said， \"When I went out the door there was a young boy. When he saw my face he gave me the sack of buns without saying a word and then just headed off. What an unsociable20) boy! \"

\"Is he your friend?\" Koutarou's mom then asked. Koutarou， after devouring21) some of the meat buns， found something else hidden underneath. It was a 500 yen coin. \"Yeah...\" he answered his mother.

“達(dá)也就是達(dá)也！和也就是和也！”

這對雙胞胎雖然外貌一模一樣，但是內(nèi)在性格卻截然不同。達(dá)也有著和許多同齡人一樣的個性特征。他滑稽有趣，不太成熟，有些壓抑，還是個懶蟲。相反，他的弟弟和也不但學(xué)習(xí)成績好，還是明青高中棒球隊(duì)的主力投手。和也為了實(shí)現(xiàn)小南和他的兒時夢想而努力著，那就是率領(lǐng)棒球隊(duì)一路沖進(jìn)甲子園——日本最著名的棒球場。在那里，每年都會舉辦日本全國高中棒球聯(lián)賽。

所有人都認(rèn)為和也比達(dá)也優(yōu)秀，甚至連達(dá)也自己也喬裝成和也取樂，但是小南對達(dá)也說：“達(dá)也是達(dá)也！和也是和也！”她認(rèn)為達(dá)也同樣是獨(dú)一無二的，并且也有著巨大的潛力。

達(dá)也花了很長一段時間才意識到自己真的很喜歡棒球，并且他也是個與眾不同的人。他也意識到自己可以走出和也的影子，追逐自己的夢想，不因其他人而全盤放棄。達(dá)也開始相信自己并試著做自己。最終，他率領(lǐng)明青高中棒球隊(duì)打進(jìn)甲子園并奪得了冠軍。他們成為1986年全日本最好的高中棒球隊(duì)。達(dá)也實(shí)現(xiàn)了和也、小南和他自己的夢想。

兄弟篇：和也的手套

看到和也在刻苦練習(xí)棒球，達(dá)也知道，和也愛著小南和棒球。所以他放棄了棒球，并把自己對小南和棒球的愛藏在了心底，盡管最開始他才是在棒球方面表現(xiàn)更好的那一個。

一個夏天，和也為了棒球錦標(biāo)賽在艱苦訓(xùn)練，而達(dá)也則在南風(fēng)咖啡屋打工。當(dāng)達(dá)也看到和也的棒球手套已經(jīng)非常破舊時，他立即用打工賺來的所有錢買了一只新棒球手套。然而，在達(dá)也正要把手套給和也之前，和也告訴他，明青高中的管理者為整個棒球隊(duì)購買了新手套。

達(dá)也從未告訴和也他曾專門為他買了手套，而是將手套藏在了他們的房間里。和也對此一無所知，直到小南的爸爸告訴他：達(dá)也花掉了所有賺來的錢，只為買那只手套。

友情篇：“那是500日元的硬幣！”

孝太郎是明青隊(duì)的捕手，他與投手和也配合默契。他無法忍受和也的死去，他討厭達(dá)也對待任何事都那么隨便的態(tài)度。因此，當(dāng)達(dá)也加入棒球隊(duì)時，孝太郎對達(dá)也說，他只是他弟弟的一個復(fù)制品，一文不值。然而，當(dāng)孝太郎看到達(dá)也在午飯時間秘密練習(xí)投球時，他明白了達(dá)也是認(rèn)真對待棒球的。

他們之間的友誼始于一個雨天。孝太郎讓達(dá)也把制服外套從窗戶那邊遞給他，出于習(xí)慣，達(dá)也將外套拋給孝太郎，讓他接住。外套口袋里的一枚500日元硬幣掉了出來，滾進(jìn)了下水道里。孝太郎感到十分沮喪，因?yàn)槟敲?00日元的硬幣是他長這么大存下來的所有錢，是打算用來買肉包子的。所以，盡管在下雨，他還是試著想從下水道里找出硬幣。因?yàn)檫@場雨，孝太郎病倒在床上。孝太郎央求媽媽給他買肉包子：“啊，那些肉包子……”于是，他的媽媽出去買包子了，然后，幾乎是馬上，她就帶回了滿滿一大袋肉包子。

她說：“在我出門的時候，有個年輕的男孩子在那里。一見到我，他便默不做聲地把這袋包子塞給我，然后就轉(zhuǎn)頭走掉了。真是個不善交際的男孩！”

“他是你的朋友嗎？”孝太郎的媽媽接著問道。在狼吞虎咽地吃掉一些肉包子后，孝太郎發(fā)現(xiàn)里面藏著別的什么東西。那是一枚500日元的硬幣。“是的……”他回答母親說。
