The world economy is mired in the severest financial crisissince the Great Depression in 2008.Due to the uncertaintyof the global economy situation,UN released the WorldEconomic Situation and Prospects 2009 on January 16,2009,in Beijing.World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP)is a joint product of the Department of Economic and Social Af-fairs,the United Nations Conference on Trade and Developmentand the five United Nations regional commissions.It provides anoverview of recent global economic performance and short-termprospects for the world economy and of some key global economicpolicy and development issues.One of its purposes is to serve as apoint of reference for discussions on economic,social and related is-sues taking place in various United Nations entities during the year.WESP of 2006,2007 and 2008 had already warned of the risksfor this to happen.All factors analyzed in those reports have nowplayed out and have pushed the world economy into recession.
