On the afternoon of May 21, Ursula Mannle, vice president of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), gave a lecture on the German election at the invitation of the CPAFFC. Li Jianping, vice-president of the CPAFFC; Ulla Bekel, representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Beijing Office; and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, the International Department of the CCCPC, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and the China-Germany Friendship Association, totaling about 40 people, attended the lecture.
In his speech before the lecture, Vice-president Li Jianping said, the Hanns Seidel Foundation is one of the important cooperative partners of the CPAFFC in Germany. As early as in May 1979, former President Wang Bingnan visited Germany at the invitation of the foundation. Over the three decades thereafter, both sides have carried out varied and effective cooperation in the fields of social politics, culture, exchanges between members of the parliaments, etc.
Ms. Mannle, a veteran politician of the Christian Social Union and former Bavarian minister, led delegations to visit China in 1977 and 2005. In her lecture, she focused on the internal issues of Germany and commented on the background, status quo and trend relating to the super election year of the country, which provided scholars and specialists who research on and follow with interest Germany’s economic and social development with updated information and unique perspectives. She also answered questions raised by the specialists, discussing together with them the current situation and trying to predict election results, all in a warm atmosphere.
