基地位于吳文化公園旁的一處荒廢的取土采石場，原來的自然山體被挖出了一個大坑，政府用別墅開發的形式來改造這一不良景觀，因此，建筑風貌要與吳文化公園的氛圍相協調。本項目著重探索地域風格的商品別墅，既要避免過于作品化帶來節能及使用上不適，也要避免沿襲傳統而不能滿足現代的生活品質，試圖創造既有價值感又兼具現代感的新中式商品住宅。由于是坡地，建筑沒有采用院落式住宅，而是采用了較小基底面積的獨立別墅形式，規劃道路走向與公園的塔形成對景與借景。別墅兩兩成組布局，每組中間設一個通道通向車庫，使區內沿路看不到車庫立面。建筑總體造型及材料具有濃郁的中式建筑特征，但采用現代的語言使之在細部完全符合現代人的生活和審美，構造上也將現代的技術與傳統的形式相結合。

The site is a disused quarry located beside the Wu Culture Park. Excavation had transformed the site from what had been a hill into a big pit, one that the local government intended to transform by developing a villa estate project on the site. In this situation, any new buildings and their atmosphere would have to relate to the Wu Culture Park. In this project, we focused on designing commercial villas that would have a sense of local identity, ones that would avoid the disorientation of much avant-garde architecture and the melancholy of cookie-cutter modern buildings. Our aim was to create modern Neo-Chinese residences of substance. Because of the sloped site we chose to create a layout of small detached houses rather than pursuing the more conventional courtyard house model. Roads

inside the estate were oriented towards the tower inside Wu Park to borrow scenery and views from this neighbor. The houses were all connected to a common tunnel that led to the parking garage. This allowed the garage to sit remotely and its facade to be hidden from the road. The overall form and the materials of the project were distinctively Chinese. Nevertheless, its spatial language and details were tuned to modern lifestyle and aesthetics. The modern tectonics of the project worked seamlessly with its traditional forms.
