Dear editors from the Crazy English series:
I am an English teacher from a tutorial center. Reading Crazy English for over 7 years, today I’ve decided to share some of my feelings with you.
For one thing, I really appreciate your efforts for these fantastic monthly magazines. They have been attracting me for years, ever since my second year of high school, mainly because there’s always something new and profound every month. At the end of each month, a voice deep in my heart remembers buying a copy of CS, then another copy of CE when I started my journey at college, and one more of CT when I began climbing my career ladder as a teacher. Back in the splendid and shaded days as a student, when I often suffered from loneliness, I listened to the mp3 of CS on my way to and from school. Occasionally, some mean classmates would say bad things about those standing out, speaking English fluently. And unfortunately, and inevitably, I fell victim to such peer pressure. But thanks to those books and mp3s from Crazy English, I enjoyed the beautiful sounds of English and a breathtaking view of other exotic cultures. Surely, they helped me sharpen my listening and reading comprehension in English, while also helping expand my vocabulary.
As time went on, having worked for a year, with the increasingly specified requirements of my job, I find my work to be proficient in this field, but I have gradually become a stranger in the areas I was once familiar with. Sometimes frustrated and helpless, I’ll flip through Crazy English and uncover several inspiring ideas, which turn into marvelous topics for my teaching. And I feel extremely grateful for this. Being a teacher is never an easy job. Teaching requires both physical and mental preparation. And teaching middle school grammar and vocabulary is no easy task. To learn such knowledge well, which I did a great job of when I was a student, is one thing, but to teach it clearly is another story. I don’t want to force-feed my students, which would leave me bored stiff with a lost appetite for teaching. Every time I have the faintest idea of how to teach, I take out the piles and volumes of Crazy English I’ve accumulated over the years, and I am sure that I can find something special to inspire my students and enable them to learn better.
…
Yours Faithfully
