Freshers Week? What is it?
Freshers Week is the term that UK universities and colleges give to the period immediately before the beginning of a new academic year.
Its purpose is to give new students a chance to meet their housemates, make new friends and sort out administration tasks such as opening student bank accounts. Freshers week is usually based around a series of social events such as discos, live bands, parties…and a Freshers Week Ball.
As well as providing a chance to learn about the university, Freshers Week allows students to become familiar with the representatives of their Student Union and to get to know the city or town which is home to the university, often through some form of pub crawl.
