金陵美術館的前身是一個建于1960－1970年代的工業廠房，它像一個侵入者，坐落在南京歷史最為悠久的城南地區。

建筑師將舊有廠房轉變為一個富于吸引力的中國藝術博物館，促使工業遺產與傳統文化友好相處，并成為歷史街區中最有活力的公共設施。

（1）組織空間，將傳統街巷延伸至老工業建筑內部，打通原先封閉的歷史街區，形成一個迷人開放的城市藝術廣場，增進了傳統街區的活力。

（2）空間疊加，將尋常的工業廠房，轉變為一個迷人的立體花園，創造了一個不同與國際化的獨特藝術空間，將傳統生活與中國藝術巧妙地結合在一起。

（3）與傳統磚瓦肌理一致的金屬打孔板的應用，在工業建筑與傳統建筑之間植入一層半透明表皮，巧妙地調和了兩類不同遺產的相互關系，修補了傳統街區的歷史肌理。

The building of the Jinling Art Museum was previously an industrial factory built between 1960s and 1970s. It is located in the most historical neighborhood in the south of Nanjing city as an intruder.

The project aims to transform the old factory building into an attractive Museum of Chinese Art, to integrate the industrial heritage with the traditional context, and to provide the most active public facility in this historical area.

(1) Traditional alley spaces are extended into the industrial building to open up the originally enclosed neighborhood, and to create charming public art space to energize the local community.

(2) Through the "overlay" of traditional urban forms, a common industrial building is transformed into an attractive three-dimensional garden, creating a unique and international art space unifying the traditional daily life with Chinese art.

(3) Punched metal boards with traditional brick texture are used to create a translucent skin between the industrial building and the traditional houses, cleverly reconciling the relationship between the two kinds of heritage buildings and mending the historical texture of the traditional neighborhood.
