這個酒店和辦公樓相結合的綜合體比鄰芳林公園,地處新加坡核心商務區,中國城和克拉克碼頭娛樂區的交匯口。項目示范了如何在城市核心地帶應對高密度的環境并為城市引入更多的功能設施,且在解決這些問題的同時如何能作到對綠化環境的保護。設計的概念之一是把路對面的公園整個折疊安排到酒店建筑的垂直空間里去。最終,酒店實現了包括空中花園,倒影水池,景觀瀑布,綠化平臺和垂直綠墻在內的工15,000平方米的綠化,而這一數字是基地面積的兩倍同時等同于芳林公園的總面積。這些綠化體內有各類花草樹木,吸引了許多鳥類,蝴蝶,昆蟲,蜥蜴等小動物前來棲息。
酒店的造型有一種四方端正的現代建筑和浪漫抽象的流線型景觀的對比效果。流線型的體量在其上端形成了許多綠化平臺而在其下部分創造出一種中國山石洞窟的形態,同時這些體量也形成了為下方空間提供遮陽的巨大屋檐。
設計用標準的建造成本實現了前所未有的寬廣綠化面積。建筑師在設計之初提議用相同的造價把原本設想的地下停車場改做成一個可以在下方制造出公共空間的自然通風的空中停車場,并且用上色的預制建筑覆件取代了的石材覆料。這樣的做法避免了更多的挖掘作業和人工照明和通風需求,降低了成本節省了時間。同時,與這個設計相結合的空中植栽不僅成為了一層自然生長的獨特建筑表皮提升了環境品質,這些綠化更讓許多區域變成了核增面積,使得開發商建造盡可能多的功能設施實現利益的最大化。
酒店的公共區域是一系列如洞窟般的城市游廊空間,在這里可以欣賞的一條馬路之隔的芳林公園景色。公共區域的室內設計也是由建筑師負責并引入了同樣抽象而浪漫但尺度更小而精顏色更加溫暖的設計元素。在公共區域于上方的客房樓體之間的酒店第五層上是一片與基地一樣長寬的”新地面層”,這里利用空中停車場的屋面制造出游泳池,露臺,溪谷溝壑,山丘平原等等一出出錯落有致的設施和景觀。此外,這里還有一條蜿蜒其中的300米長花園步道和并點綴著幾座靈感來自于該地區舊時街邊常掛曬著的捕魚籠造型的”鳥籠涼亭”。酒店客房部分被排列成了“E”字型,在棟與棟之間支撐起幾片流線形的綠化平臺,為客房與公園的視覺聯系之間增添了有趣的前景。客房的走廊是從樓體分離出來的自然通風過道,走廊面向著酒店后方的政府組屋。走廊的外側設置了許多水體和小花園而內側靠客房的墻體上則有垂直綠化。每間客房的衛生間都可以開啟和客房連成一體并獲得自然采光和花園的景色。最后,在建筑上部的綠化平臺上人們可以欣賞的美麗的城市景色。
辦公樓部分也有自然通風的電梯廳和衛生間,這些空間由懸掛在立面上的植栽盒遮蔽,而這些植栽盒的設計同樣來自捕魚籠的造型。
此項目獲得了新加坡綠色建筑標志評分的鉑金級評分,這是新加坡國內最高等級的環保評分。建筑的環保表現必須經過有關當局的實時監測符合標準后才能獲得這樣的評級。
Fronting Singapore's Hong Lim Park, at the junction of the CBD, Chinatown and the entertainment district Clark Quay, this hotel and office development demonstrates that increased density can come with an increase in amenity. It is possible to not only conserve greenery in the city centre but to increase it. In concept, the building brings the park across the road and folds it up vertically into the building. A total of 15,000m2 of skygardens, refecting pools, waterfalls, planter terraces and green walls were designed; this is double the site area or equivalent to the footprint of the adjacent Hong Lim Park. The garden, which have fowering plants, have already attracted birds, butterfies, insects and lizards.
The building form contrasts modernist orthogonal forms with a romantic abstracted contoured landscape. The contour expression creates a series of planted terraces on the upper surfaces, and chinese-grotto inspired spaces below. Further layers of the contours continue up the towers, acting as huge sunshade louvres.
The design made trade-offs to achieve the extensive landscape areas within a standard development budget. Intitally costed with a large basement and stone cladding, the architects proposed to do an above-ground, naturally-ventilated carpark lifted above the public areas, which saved both cost and time in excavation, lighting and ventilation, while the cladding was changed to precast concrete with a paint fnish. The plants, which are part of the cladding, grow themselves. Garden areas, which are exempt from foor area, extend the hotel's event facilities at minimal cost and allow them to ofer unique environments.
The hotel public areas are located in a cave-verandah, overlooking the park. The interiors, also designed by the architects, continues the abstract-romantic language, but interpreted at a fner scale and in warmer materials. Between the public areas and the room blocks, the top of the podium is a "new ground plane" that covers the entire site, and has swimming pools, terraces, gullys, valleys, waterfalls, knolls and plateaus, formed by sculpting selective bays of the the carpark slabs below. A walking trail 300m long winds through the landscape. "Birdcage" pavilions, inspired by traditional local fsh traps, hang out over the street. The room blocks, organised as an E shape, support hanging gardens between them, giving foreground interest to the views over the park. The room block have detached, naturally ventilated corridors facing the public housing blocks behind, these are flanked by water and gardens on the exterior side, and a green wall against the rooms. Guest rooms have naturally lit bathrooms which open up to the rooms and have views of the gardens. Finally, at the top of the building, planted roof terraces give great views over the city.
The ofce tower similarly features naturally ventilated lobbies and bathrooms screened by trees in fsh-trap inspired hanging planters.
This project has achieved Singapore’s Green Mark Platinum score, the nation’s highest environmental certification, and its performance, monitored by the building authority, is matching targets.
