Food festivals have always been an excellent door to exploring local cuisine. The following is a list of seven diverse festivals celebrating foods from every culture throughout the world.

美食節向來都是探尋當地美食的一種絕佳途徑。以下便是來自全球各地文化的七個不同的美食節。

霍基蒂卡野味美食節

When： Each March

Where： Hokitika， New Zealand

A culinary1） extravaganza2） not for the weak at heart， this New Zealand event is filled with fun and excitement.

Set in a destination on its own3）， the festival's landscape includes mountains， glaciers， rivers， rainforest and wildlife. Celebrating the unique wilderness of New Zealand's Southern Island， the Hokitika Wildfood Festival features exotic4） dishes like wasp5） larvae6） ice cream.

If that's all a bit too wild for you， there are delicious treats such as home-cured7） bacon for the rest of us boring/smart folk.

While there are several mango festivals that take place throughout the world， the International Mango Festival in India is one of the largest.

The festival exhibits more than 500 different varieties of mangoes grown throughout India， celebrating the unique color， smell and taste particular to the Indian mango. While mangoes are traditionally eaten raw in India， the festival showcases various recipes from notable Indian chefs.

Involving all things mango， the festival's events include a mango eating competition， mango slogan writing， mango carving and mango quizzes. If you're not a huge mango fan then this is certainly a festival you can skip. For those who relish8） the small succulent9） fruits， visit the International Mango Festival to taste one-of-a-kind10） mango jams， pickles11）， fruit juices and more.

Being one of the most popular food festivals in the world， the Maine Lobster Festival has been running for more than 60 years. These delicious crustaceans12） pull in13） the crowds with thousands of boiled lobsters cooked in the world's largest steamer14）.

The festival ends with the famed Great International Lobster Crate15） Race， where contestants speed across lobster crates in the harbor， for a crustacean cup.

Having a bunch of tomatoes thrown at you isn't most people's idea of a good time.

La Tomatina celebrates the humble red fruit with the biggest food fight on the planet！ It kicks off with a rush to climb a ham-topped greasy20） pole. Once the ham is grabbed， several truckloads of tomatoes drive into the city and the crowd goes wild throwing them at each other and creating a massive marinara21） mess.

Serious shellfish22） lovers listen up—The Galway Oyster Festival's highlights include the World Oyster Opening Championships and the "Elegant Lady" competition—all for the "craic23）"， of course.

Galway is situated on the windswept West Coast of Ireland， and it's considered by many to be the cultural capital of Ireland， where Irish speakers love to debate anything from poetry to economics.

It's a fitting location for this oyster celebration then， given the little mollusk's24） association with what we consider to be the more discerning25） or cultured palate26）.

The festival itself has been running since 1954， earning it a place among the world's oldest food festivals.

Where： Kona Districts， the Big Island of Hawaii， United States

Visitors from all over the world gather alongside island locals on the beaches of Hawaii for this festival of arts， food and drinks to celebrate all things coffee.

Since the early 1800s coffee has been cultivated in the Kona Districts of the Big Island of Hawaii. Kona Coffee is now one of the most highly regarded and expensive coffee blends27） in the world. This coffee festival generally lasts just under two weeks at the beginning of November. The festival boasts a variety of events， including pageants28）， tours， workshops， lectures， parades， tastings， competitions， dinners， art exhibits and live entertainment.

科納咖啡為何是世間珍品？

1828年，一位名叫塞繆爾·拉格爾斯（Samuel Ruggles）的美國傳教士開始在南科納區（South Kona）種植咖啡樹。1841年，人們在科納區的火山坡上建起了咖啡種植園。這樣的地理位置保證了咖啡生長所需的海拔高度，厚厚的火山灰又為咖啡提供了豐富的礦物質。而且這里每天上午陽光充足，下午多云、多雨，晚上又會變得晴朗而涼爽。有利的地理位置、適宜的氣候條件再加上有限的種植面積（僅有1000多公頃）造就了科納咖啡這一世間珍品。它味道香濃、甘醇，且帶有一種葡萄酒香、水果香和香料香的混合香味，風味非常獨特。上等的科納咖啡還有適度的酸味，口感溫潤。
