合川因渠江、涪江、嘉陵江三江匯流而得名。合川擁有山、水、城合一的文化景觀。

合川有迄今全國保存最為完好、城防體系極具特色、已進入中國世界文化遺產預備名錄的古戰場遺址、國家考古遺址公園、國家重點風景名勝區、全國重點文物保護單位、國家AAAA級旅游景區釣魚城；有首批全國十大歷史文化名鎮、“中國最美麗村鎮”、國家AAAA級旅游景區淶灘古鎮；有全國最大的禪宗石刻摩巖造像群二佛寺石刻；有融旅游、餐飲、休閑、娛樂、祈福朝覲于一體的歷史文化街區、國家AAA級旅游景區文峰街；還有陶行知紀念館、盧作孚故居、劉文學故里、戰時兒童保育院、金子沱起義紀念碑等一系列紅色旅游景點。有龍多山、九峰山、雙龍湖、白鶴湖等自然景色優美的山水氧吧。即將建成的100里渠江綠道也將成為合川連接釣魚城到淶灘古鎮精品景區的最美景觀帶。

合川歷史文化厚重。巴文化、龍舟文化、理學文化、廉政文化久負盛名，孕育了史學家張森楷、愛國實業家盧作孚、新中國第一位少年英雄劉文學等杰出人物，理學鼻祖周敦頤、一代廉吏于成龍、人民教育家陶行知等賢達曾在合為官授業。

未來合川，將把旅游業作為支柱性產業，全力聚焦“歷史文化、濱水休閑、鄉村體驗”繪好旅游風景畫。

身入合川，滿眼綠地、濕地、草地，更有清新的水和空氣。在陽光明媚的日子里，一座城都仿佛慢下來，散步的人、喝茶的人、垂釣的人、輕歌曼舞的人……構成一幅活色生香、讓人艷羨的合川版“清明上河圖”。

Hechuan gets its name because of the confluence of three rivers—“Qujiang River, Fujiang River, and Jialing River”. Hechuan owns the cultural landscape that integrates mountains and waters with cities.

Hechuan’s some scenic spots has entered into the World Cultural Heritage Tentative List in China, such as, the site of ancient battlefield, National park of archaeological site, National key scenic spots, major historical and cultural site protected at the national level, Diaoyucheng Fortree Relics, the national AAAA level scenic spot, which are best-reserved and have characteristic system of the defense of a city so far; it has the fi rst-batch top 10 famous historical and cultural town at the nationwide, “the most beautiful town in China”, and Laitan Ancient Town, the national AAAA scenic spot; also it has the stone inscription of Erfo temple, the biggest stone inscription group of zen; it has the historical and cultural blocks integrating tourism, catering, leisure, entertainment, and praying and pilgrimage, and Wenfeng Ancient Street, the national AAAA scenic spot, and it also has Tao Xingzhi memorial hall, the former residence of Lu Zuofu, the home village of Liu Wenxue, children nursery in wartime, the monument of the uprising in Jin Zituo, and other a series of scenic spots of red tourism. And there are many oxygen bars of beautiful landscape, such as, Longduo Mountain, Jiufeng Mountain, Shuanglong River, Baihe River and so on. The 100-mile greenway of Qujiang that is almost completion will become the best beautiful landscape belt connecting Diaoyucheng Fortree Relics with the charming scenic spot of ancient town of Laitan.

Hechuan has rich historic culture. Ba Culture, the Culture of dragon boat, Neo-Confucianism Culture, culture of an honest and clean government have long enjoyed a good reputation and nurtured many outstanding people, such as, the historiographer, Zhang Senkai, patriotic businessman, Lu Zuofu, the first young hero in new China, Liu Wenxue, and Zhou Dunyi, the originator of Neo-Confucianism, Yu Chenglong, the honest and clean government official, Tao Xingzhi, the famous educator, and other prominent people.

In the future, Hechuan will regard tourist industry as the mainstay industry, focusing on the traveling mode of “historical culture, leisure in Binshui water, and experiencing countryside”. Once arriving at Hechuan, in front of eyes, people can see greenbelt, wet land, grassland and breathe fresh air and clear water. In a sunny day, the pace of life in this city seems to become slow. People walking , drinking, fishing, singing and dancing and so on become a “Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival” of Hechuan that is lively, colorful, and admiring.
