Starting from the functionalist paradigm, this paper mainly discusses the current situation and problems of New Media Research under this paradigm. The author holds that although the research on new media in China has increased a lot, it is deeply influenced by the path of functionalism, which shows the instrumental orientation, the presupposition of balanced premise of the system, the cyclical theory of "the consequence is the cause" and the prominent orientation of utilitarianism. Based on the first-hand corpus of subway bilingual broadcasting collected in Shanghai and Hangzhou since 2013, this paper analyzes the discourse structure of the station in the subway, and compares the contents of the Chinese and English broadcasting stations under the same structure, and finds the same discourse structure. There is information asymmetry in the Chinese-English subway broadcasting station under the same function. There are also differences in the selection and translation of subway English information in different regions under the same function. So we use the semantic missing relationship XC=?XE to analyze and compare these linguistic phenomena, and in terms of functional linguistics and pragmatics, we can explore the possible causes of Chinese and English from the aspects of time space, audience identity, language differences and social context. The reason for the asymmetry of information in the subway broadcasting station is to improve the normative nature of the rapid development of urban public transportation bilingual broadcasting.
