The Influence of “AQ True Story”on “Cat City”

【Abstract】In fact， “cat city” is a satire and criticism of Chinese peoples evil nature. In the history of modern Chinese literature， it is worthy of being the companion of “the true story of ah Q”. Although the writing time， background and creation method of “cat city” and “the true story of ah Q” are different， they are consistent in the subject of transforming national character.

The True Story of Ah Q” is the most important one in Lu Xuns novels. It has shaped the typical image of Ah Q from the background of the rural villages before and after the Revolution of 1911. The most obvious national inferiority of Ah Q is the spiritual victory method and slavish. “Cat City” is a novel based on Japans aggressive invasion of China and the authorities adoption of the non-resistance policy. The Chinese on the earth accidentally went to the cat country on Mars and visited the cat country. Learn about the political， military， diplomatic， cultural and education aspects of cat country， witness the ignorance， backwardness， numbness， compromise and safety of cat people， kill each other and finally be destroyed by the dwarves. Many of Lao Shes works have been influenced by the “AQ True Biography”. For example， the old horse in “Two Horses”， he is stupid， incompetent， over-excited， not motivated， and lack of ideological features. The “Cat City” is the most obvious of the many works of Lao She.

I. Reproduction of the Spiritual Victory Law

The so-called “spiritual victory law” thought， is oneself originally have no victory， but for the sake of making oneself get comfort， consider oneself victory in the thought， this is actually a kind of opioid narcotic， also be spirit opium. This is temporarily regarded as a positive aspect of the spiritual victory law. Spiritual victory covered the eyes of the masses - ah Q， even the eyes of the whole country - cat country. Ah Q not only has no land， no houses， and even does not know his native place， but is a tramp in weizhuang. He is not only economically exploited， but also politically oppressed. He has no power or status. Ah Q always could not face up to his slave situation， but used to replace the failure in reality with the false victory of fantasy， so as to obtain psychological comfort.

With the help of an explorers investigation and research experience， the book describes the mental illness of cat country up and down. “I” witnessed a battle between the cat people and the dwarves， which ended with the destruction of cat city， an alien civilization that had been expanding its desires. Cats also feel that foreign science and technology are very useful， but they disdain， because they are the oldest country in all countries. This kind of blind arrogance and self-deception can be said to be the “spiritual victory method” of the cat， which is consistent with the spirit of Ah Q.

II.The slave nature deep in character

What lu xun most deplores and abhors is the servility deep in the hearts of Chinese people. This servility is particularly evident in ah Q. He did not know how to resist the feudal power forces such as Lord zhao. Whatever he did to him， he accepted willingly. Ah Q met the strong man and accepted it， and was willing to be humiliated. However， if you encounter a weaker person who is weaker than him， you will measure your opponent， and you will be beaten with a small effort. “Cat City” also wrote this servility. Cat people also have a history， a history of more than 20，000 years. In ancient times， they also fought and outfought foreign countries， but in five hundred years， the result of internecine warfare was that they completely forgot the concept of fighting foreigners， and correspondingly， led to the degeneration of civilization. People in the Cat Country are keen on “fighting.” And indifference and selfishness to the extreme， he， or any cat person， if you have true heart， it is completely self-centered， and the use of people for their own interests seems to be the main reason for his friendship.Here， we have seen the subtle influence of “the true story of ah Q”， and we can feel the two literary giants common serious attitude in reforming the national issue.

The national inferiority of “The True Story of Ah Q” led to the destruction of Ah Q and the revolutionary abortion. The national inferiority of the cat people led to the demise of the cat country， and the two really have the same effect. Lu Xun created an image of Ah Q for Ah Q， and Lao She used this image to create a country， the Cat Country.
