英語中，大多數形容詞和副詞都有三個等級，即原級、比較級和最高級。

揭秘一：形容詞或副詞原級的用法

當形容詞或副詞之前有表示程度的副詞so、very、quite、rather等修飾時，用形容詞或副詞的原級。表示兩者在某方面相同時，用“as+形容詞或副詞原級+as”結構，表示“……和……一樣……”；表示一方在某方面不及另一方時，用“not as/so+形容詞或副詞的原級+as”結構，表示“……不如……”。例如：

This story is as interesting as that one.這個故事和那個故事一樣有趣。

She doesn’t study as/so hard as her brother.她學習不如她哥哥努力。

揭秘二：形容詞或副詞比較級的用法

形容詞或副詞的比較級表示兩者間的比較，常用于“形容詞或副詞比較級+than”結構中，表示“……比……更……”。than后可接比較狀語從句，也可接名詞、代詞等，如果是人稱代詞，主格、賓格都可以使用。例如：

I am more outgoing than my friend.我比我的朋友更外向。

Try to do better next time.下次爭取干得好一點。

比較級前可使用much、even、far、a little、a lot等修飾語，有時也可以加表示數量的詞。例如：

She jumps much higher than Mary.她跳得比瑪麗高得多。

Mike ran a little faster than his classmate in the race.在比賽中，邁克比他的同學跑得快一點兒。

My friend is three years younger than me.我的朋友比我小三歲。

【知識拓展】

形容詞或副詞的比較級的幾種特殊形式：

1.“the+形容詞或副詞的比較級+of the two”，意為“兩者中比較……的”。例如：

Nick is the cleverer of the two children.尼克是這兩個孩子中較聰明的那個。

2.“（單音節或部分雙音節形容詞或副詞的)比較級+and+(單音節或部分雙音節形容詞或副詞的)比較級”，意為“越來越……”；當部分雙音節或多音節形容詞或副詞表示這一意義時，應用“more and more+形容詞或副詞原級”結構。例如：

The weather is getting worse and worse.天氣變得越來越糟糕了。

The city is becoming more and more beautiful.這個城市變得越來越美麗了。

3.“the+形容詞或副詞的比較級，the+形容詞或副詞的比較”意為“越……，越……”。例如：

The better the bamboo grows,the more food the pandas will have.竹子生長得越好，大熊貓的食物就越多。

4.“形容詞或副詞的比較級+than any other+單數可數名詞+同一范圍”，意為“比其他任何……都……”；“形容詞或副詞比較級+than any+單數可數名詞+不同范圍”，意為"比……中任何……都……”。例如：

Linda is taller than any other student in our class.在我們班，琳達比其他任何學生都高。

Mary is thinner than any student in her brother’s class.瑪麗比她弟弟班里任何一個學生都瘦。

5.“...times+形容詞或副詞的比較級+than...”表示倍數。例如：

This village is four times bigger than that one.這個村莊比那個村莊大四倍。

6.在含有or的選擇疑問句中，如果有兩者供選擇，要用形容詞或副詞的比較級的形式。例如：

Which bike is newer,this one or that one?哪輛自行車更新，這輛還是那輛？

【溫馨提示】

比較雙方必須是同類事物，即人與人、物與物進行比較。如“我的書包比吉姆的貴。”應譯成“My schoolbag is more expensive than Jim’s.”，而不能譯成“My schoolbag is more expensive than Jim.”。

揭秘三：形容詞或副詞最高級的用法

形容詞或副詞的最高級表示三者或三者以上人或物的比較，句中可用in、of、among介詞短語或定語從句等來說明比較的范圍。通常情況下，形容詞最高級前要使用定冠詞，但當形容詞最高級前有形容詞性物主代詞、名詞所有格等修飾語時，不用定冠詞；副詞最高級前用不用定冠詞都可以。例如：

I think the movie is the most boring of all.在所有影片中，我認為這部最枯燥。

The little boy is my best friend.那個小男孩是我最好的朋友。

Bob runs(the)fastest in our class.在我們班鮑勃跑得最快。

【知識拓展】

形容詞或副詞最高級的幾種特殊形式：

1.“one of the+形容詞最高級+復數名詞或復數賓格代詞”意為“……中最……之一”。例如：

Mr.Smith is one of the most popular teachers in our school.史密斯先生是我們學校最受歡迎的老師之一。

2.“the+序數詞+形容詞最高級+單數名詞”表示“第幾最……”。例如：

Is Hainan Island the second largest island in China?海南島是中國的第二大島嗎？

3.在含有or的選擇疑問句中，如果有三者或三者以上供選擇，要用形容詞或副詞的最高級形式。例如：

Who sings best,David,Dale or Dave?誰唱得最好，戴維、戴爾還是戴夫？
