5月17日,在首場 “清華名師教學講壇”上,校長邱勇鄭重宣布:將在2018級新生中開設“寫作與溝通”必修課程,到2020年,該課程將覆蓋所有本科生,并力爭面向研究生提供課程和指導。開設這門課程的意義是什么呢?為什么會把寫作與溝通這樣的基本技能融進大學課程里面呢?可以采取什么樣的措施使這門課程更有效地開展?

According to national surveys,employers want to hire college graduates who can write coherently(連貫地), thinkcriticallyand creatively, and analyze quantitative(定量的)data.But writing and communication skills are often seriously lacking from many job seekers'skill sets.
In many Chinese universities,science andengineeringmajors seldom choose to take writing and communication courses.Even those who do say they pay little attention in class because the work is too easy.“Even the course on college-level Chinese, the only compulsory Chinese course in universities,has been marginalized (邊緣化),”said Lin Feng, a university teacher in Shanghai.
Compared to China,many universities abroad have made writing courses an essential part of their ed-ucation systems.According to a survey of 900 American colleges,96 percent of those who offer four-year degrees have compulsory writing coursesin the freshman year.Here are some examples.
Expository writing is a compulsory course for every student at Harvard University.Itcoversa wide range of subjects andcombineswritingwithacademic,moraland social issues,to help students gain critical and creative thinking skills.
