The concept of smart cities is not a new idea.IBM first came up with it in recent years，picturinga more streamlined（流線型的）and eco-friendly city managed by modern technology.

The idea was introduced to China in 2015.The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development's data showed that China had 193 trial smart city projects last year，reported Xinhua.

However，the phrase“smart city”never appeared in the government work report.Until 2015，when Premier Li Keqiang mentioned that“we will develop smart cities and protect historical and local culture，ensuring it is passed on from generation to generation.”

Other measures helping Chinese cities go smart includestrengtheningurban facilities（設(shè)施） for water， gas，and electricity supplies， and improving public transport，flood prevention and rainwater control systems.In all，the goal for building smart cities is to improve the environment for urban living.
