The Modern significance of the study of Ancient Poetry and Prose

【Abstract】nowadays more and more people begin the importance of humane ancient poetry and are keen to learn it. This phenomenon is very valuable for us to rethink the modern meaning of ancient poetry. I will discuss this issue in this article.

With the continuous enhancement of China’s national strength， people pay more and more attention to Chinese culture. The typical representative of its Chinese traditional culture， ancient poetry， has become a topic of conversation after tea and dinner. I will discuss this issue in detail in this article.

1. A history of poetry is also the orthodox history of literature of our nation

In the history of Chinese literature， poetry has always occupied a leading position， especially after poetry was listed as the content of the imperial examination， it is unprecedented prosperity， writing scenery， expressing feelings and aspirations， containing logic， and dabbling in all kinds of phenomena. Covering all aspects of social life. It can be said that for thousands of years of the growth of our Chinese people’s lives， enlightenment is a poem， the ultimate is also a poem， such as the “three characters Sutra”， “Thousand words text” and so on are enlightenment poems. When Tan Sitong finished writing “the Wall of the Prisons”， he died generously and Lu you finished “Shi’er” before closing his eyes. It can be said that “Life is also a poem， death is Tao.” It can be said that thinking is poetry， culture is poetry， civilization is poetry， negating traditional poetry is equal to negating the ideological and cultural system of our nation.

2. the connection between Ancient Poems and Modern Life

The ancient poems including “four Books and five Classics”， Tang poetry and Song ci， are all the products of slow life in agricultural society. In the modern society where the depreciation rate of knowledge is quite high， the depreciation rate of ancient poetry and prose seems to be higher， so what is the use of learning ancient poetry and prose？ In my opinion， the ancient poetry hidden human love， freedom， equality， tolerance and other emotions， these emotions can not be depreciated， the eternal human emotions are interlinked， will not change with the times. Truth， goodness and beauty are the three elements hidden in ancient poetry and prose. All sound personality， must have these three elements. For it is the education of knowledge， the education of the will， the education of the good， the education of the emotion. Knowledge， will， feelings， and three aspects of education are equally adequate， in order to cultivate a sound personality.

3. The need to improve the level of Chinese

Classical literature is the upstream of Chinese culture， and the carrier of classical literature-classical Chinese， is the foundation and skeleton. It is very difficult for us to absorb and understand thousands of years of Chinese culture， including literature， if we do not read classical Chinese. Pre-Qin period is an important period for the formation and gradual formation of Chinese literature. Although it is still far away from the so-called “modern and ancient prose”， it has laid the foundation for the development of later literature， and laid the groundwork for the magnificent Fu style of the Han Dynasty， the style of Wei and Jin dynasties， and the poetry of Tang and Song dynasties.

It should be said that since the beginning of the Qin Dynasty， the splendid culture of China has been closely integrated with classical Chinese. Therefore， if you are not familiar with the ancient Chinese， you will not see how beautiful the Chinese language can be， nor will you understand the depth and height of the ancients’ attainments. Learning ancient Chinese can improve one’s personality. The classical ancient prose is the best carrier of Chinese excellent traditional culture. The philosophy of being a human being contains the principles of self-cultivation， homecoming， governing the country and leveling the world. Reciting and learning these classics and ancient texts is very helpful to the improvement of our vision， mind， ambition and character accomplishment.Chinese is the language of poetry， because for thousands of years， Chinese has grown and developed in the atmosphere of poetry. Chinese and poetry have developed their own in the complement of each other， and can not be separated from each other.

4. Summary

One learns ancient poetry， can love life， have interest， treat others equally， learn to tolerate， and can obtain the reading experience and the spiritual sentiment， this is undoubtedly the greatest harvest. A modern Chinese， who has not inherited and developed the traditional culture of his own nation， cannot be counted as a real modern man in the strict sense， especially in the cultural sense.
