A LM-2C carrier rocket launched the HY-1D,China's fourth remote-sensing satellite for ocean observation, into space at 02:31 Beijing time on June 11,2020 from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.
The HY-1D satellite was developed by the DFH Satellite Co.Ltd.under the China Academy of Space Technology. It will form China's first satellite constellation for marine civil service together with HY-1C,which was launched in September 2018.
The satellite constellation will enable ocean observation globally. It can produce two remote sensing images of water color, vegetation index and four images of sea surface temperature everyday, providing operational global ocean color and water temperature monitoring, promoting the study of the distribution of primary marine productivity, the status of marine fishery and aquaculture resources and environmental quality monitoring through the continuous acquisition of long-term data of sea color and water temperature. It can provide a scientific basis for pelagic fishing guidance and rational exploitation and utilization of marine resources, significantly improving the economic benefits of China's oceanic fisheries.
At the same time, the HY-1D satellite will provide data services for resource and environment investigation in China'soffshore sea areas and coastal zones, marine disaster prevention and mitigation, sustainable use of marine resources, marine ecological early warning and environmental protection. It will greatly improve China's effective observation capacity of global water color, coastal zone resources and the ecological environment, demonstrating China ranks within the international leadership in the field of water color remote sensing.
