The CPAPD Hosts the Third Online Dialogue on China-US Relations. On 20th October, the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament hosted the third online dialogue on China-US relations. More than 20 scholars and representatives from the CPAPD, Brookings Institute, American Enterprise Institute, Cato Institute, Harvard University, Carter Center, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies participated in this Dialogue. Dr. Tao Tao, Deputy Secretary General of the CPAPD attended the meeting and delivered some remarks. Participating scholars discussed topics like the “China Topics” in the US general election and the trend of “China policy” for the new US administration. The dialogue was held in an honest and candid manner, with lively exchange of views, achieving good results.

Online Video Conference Successfully Held between CPAPD and ISRS. On 30 November 2020, the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) and Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS) held an online video conference. Mr. Sanjar Valiyev, Deputy Director of ISRS, and scholars from ISRS Center for Regional Studies and from ISRS Center for Asian-Pacific Studies, Mr. Zhou Li, Vice President of the CPAPD and former Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Ms. Chen Xiaohan, Deputy Secretary-General, CPAPD attended the conference. Ms. Su Chang, Research Fellow of Institute for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Studies of China Academy of Social Sciences delivered a keynote speech. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on the security situation in Central Asia, jointly advancing the construction of the "Belt and Road" projects in multiple ways under the epidemic, and exchanges between the two organizations.

Briefing about the Online Dialogue between China and US Scholars. On 10th December, the CPAPD, the US Institute of Peace and the American Friends Service Committee jointly held another online dialogue between Chinese and US scholars. More than 20 scholars from the Brookings Institution, the University of California, the Georgetown University, the Nuclear Deterrence Initiative, the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences, the China Institute of International Studies, the Tsinghua University and the Fudan University have participated in this dialogue. All participating scholars have had candid and lively exchanges among themselves and achieved substantial results, regarding the current global strategic situation and China-US strategic stability.

Scholars have argued that the current global strategic stability has been impacted, the international arms control and disarmament system has encountered challenges, and uncertainty has existed in the China-US strategic relationship. From the strategic and long-term perspective of maintaining global strategic stability and common interests of mankind, China and the US should aim to build strategic stability between China and the US under the new situation, through measures of controlling strategic competition, avoiding arms race, enhancing strategic mutual trust, strengthening strategic dialogue, broadening strategic consensus, and expanding space for strategic cooperation.

Scholars also believed that all peace force in international organizations, governments, civil society, academia and the media need to be mobilized. So that this force can play active roles to vigorously maintain global strategic stability and advocate new arrangements with contemporary features on basis of the existing arms control system. When the force for peace is mobilized, it will not only provide new opportunities for governments across the globe to cooperate in promoting international arms control and disarmament, but also new impetus into the building of a sound and stable China-US relationship.

Deputy Secretary General Dr. Tao Tao visits the Ford Foundation, Beijing Office. On 17th December, Dr. Tao Tao, Deputy Secretary General of the CPAPD paid a visit to the Ford Foundation, Beijing Office. He and Ms. Elizabeth Knup who is Regional Director and Chief Representative in China exchanged views about potential cooperation between the two organizations in the future.
