Cruz returned after head injury

115-year-old Nathan Santa Cruz had a head injury when he removed his helmet and slumped over on the Venice High bench.Brendan Murray,his physician,went into action and the opening game of the high school football season took place on that night.

2An emergency action plan under the direction of previous athletic trainer Kirsten Farrell was activated.They stabilized Cruz's neck,checked his airway and monitored his blood oxygen.“My suspicion was that he had a head injury,”Murray said.Paramedics (護理人員) arrived at 8：21 and Cruz was in emergency surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center immediately.Crystal Clark,Cruz's mother,rode in the ambulance with him.Clark said the brain surgery lasted hours.No one could predict what the effects would be in the first 24 hours after surgery.Would he wake up?Would he be able to walk?

4“I feel great,”Cruz said afterwards.“My running gives people hope.It proves anything is possible.At the end of the tunnel,the rain doesn't rain forever.”His mother thought it was a miracle.

5Lots of things had to go right for Cruz to make it through that uncertain night.“It was a tough situation for everybody who was there that night.Thankfully,we had a doctor and a trainer who knew what to do and we were near a world-class hospital.It was a perfect storm of events and that treatment saved his life,”Crystal said.Cruz woke up soon after the surgery with few unpleasant effects.He began physical therapy and all the doctors were amazed at his performance.
