你想和湯姆克·魯斯、貝克漢姆、姚明、張柏芝這些心目中的偶像零距離接觸并盡情合影嗎?找到孟露她就能讓你美夢成真。這位27歲的寧夏女孩,照顧著包括克林頓、比爾·蓋茨、荷蘭女王等在內的眾多世界名人,從穿衣、化妝到頭發護理,她幾乎樣樣都管。因為,孟露工作的地點在舉世聞名的杜莎夫人蠟像館。這位名人蠟像維護師的生活,令人耳目一新!
做全世界名人的“美容師”
孟露是英國倫敦杜莎夫人蠟像館的職業維護師,除和團隊一起測量有關數據外,平時她主要負責名人蠟像的維護工作,大家都叫她“美容師”。每天早上7點,來蠟像館參觀的各國游客還未入場,女孩就開始為那些“名人”整理衣服、鞋襪、發飾、妝容等,待把世界各地名人的外形一一“糾正”完畢,再為它們精心化妝。
蠟像館內放滿了蠟像,為它們化妝、補妝絕非一件易事。我在倫敦總館采訪她時,孟露也不忘觀察周圍的蠟像,偶爾發現某尊蠟像有些部位失色了,她便提起畫筆,用油彩為蠟像“補妝”,然后以硬毛筆仿造出皮膚的肌理,以保證所有的“名人”都能神采奕奕地迎接觀眾。孟露除了對蠟像的日常維護外,還和同事們每隔一個月左右讓這些蠟像輪流接受“全身美容”,其中包括換洗衣服、更換首飾以及洗頭。
蠟像館為每座蠟像都準備了好幾套衣服,這其中有些是明星本人特地捐出的,有些是制作師根據原版的衣服復制的。就拿體育展館里的羅納爾多、喬丹等人的蠟像來說,他們都以運動狀態的造型出現,他們的衣服相對好打理一點,而名人展館里正裝出現的克林頓和比爾·蓋茨等,則需要維護師們花費更多的精力為他們熨燙西裝和長褲,以保持其顏色的鮮亮和形狀的挺刮。
有趣的是,除衣服之外,體育明星身上的首飾是最少的。鄧亞萍的脖子上戴了一條款式簡單的項鏈,姚明左手上只有那根標志性紅繩子。除此之外,只有小貝左手無名指上有結婚戒指,由于足球比賽中規定運動員不能在身上佩戴任何首飾,因此在平時的比賽中小貝從來都用半透明的膠布將結婚戒指貼住,而這一細節也被原封不動地搬到了杜莎夫人蠟像館中,不過孟露會定期將這些首飾從蠟像的身上取下進行清洗,“有時候這些明星本人也會捐出自己用過的首飾給我們用于更換。”孟露對我說。
為“名人”更換衣服和首飾還算小意思,最麻煩的當屬給這些蠟像洗頭了。由于這些名人的頭發都是制作師們用真人頭發一根一根“種”在蠟像頭部之后再制作出相應的發型,因此,對于這些頭發的維護也不得不和這些明星本人保養頭發的程序一樣,需要一絲不茍、“真刀真槍”地進行,甚至有過之而無不及。“每隔一個月,我們會把蠟像抬回我們的工作室給它洗頭。”孟露說,“我們為它們準備了專用的香波洗發水和護發素,那些東西比我們自己用的化妝品價格昂貴多了。在洗頭的過程中,維護師們首先用一塊白布將蠟像的頭部從發際線以下全部蓋住,然后進行洗發、上護發素、吹干等等各種程序,這和我們平日洗頭完全一樣。”頭發洗干凈后,孟露他們還要再根據參考圖片給蠟像們做發型。郭晶晶的蠟像姿勢是她起跳前的那個瞬間,為求細節真實,維護師們每次給它洗完頭,都要在頭發上抹上足夠的摩絲讓其看上去有剛剛從水里出來的濕漉漉的感覺。而向來引領體育界時尚潮流的貝克漢姆也無法讓維護師們省心,孟露說,要是哪天貝克漢姆心血來潮給自己換了發型,她們也得讓小貝蠟像的發型在第一時間發生變化。
盡管如此,體育明星們的頭發還算容易打理,而那些演藝女明星們的風情萬種的各式發型的打理,才是最需要維護師們花費時間和精力的活。“最麻煩的是奧黛麗·赫本,她那一頭光潔優雅的盤發是她的經典造型之一,所以每次給奧黛麗·赫本的蠟像洗完頭,我們都要花很多的時間幫她把頭發重新梳起來。”孟露說。
此外,蠟像不同于其他雕塑,一座蠟像制作完成后,并不意味著它的外表永遠都將是這個樣子,故維護師還得憑著敏銳的嗅覺,讓蠟像根據名人形象的各種變化不斷向公眾展示明星本人最新的模樣。
比如有一次被稱為“萬人迷”的貝克漢姆眼眉受了傷,在電視上看到這一幕后,孟露立即在蠟像貝克漢姆的眉梢處貼上膠布。第二天游人來參觀時,看到這塊小小的膠布頓時贊嘆不已!“有一年,荷蘭公主懷孕,肚子一天天大起來。杜莎夫人蠟像館里荷蘭公主蠟像的肚子也跟著一天天大了起來。”孟露笑著說,那是因為工作人員在蠟像的衣服里塞了布墊。“荷蘭公主生下孩子后,蠟像的體型也隨之恢復原狀。”
在孟露眼中,蠟像不是一件沒有生命的東西而是自己的朋友。當采訪結束時,筆者問她將來有什么打算,女孩笑了笑說,自己會鐘情于蠟像,并想擁有一座自己親手打造的“孟露蠟像館”!
獲取中外名人測量數據
孟露說,杜莎夫人除倫敦總館外,還有荷蘭的阿姆斯特丹、美國的拉斯維加斯和紐約、中國的香港和上海(2006年6月開館)5家分館。為了讓制作出來的蠟像更逼真,除了已經去世的名人外,對于生活于當今的任何一位名人的蠟像,在制作前都得由英國總部的制作團隊為本人進行200多項數據的測量,然后才動手制作。測量過程需要花費3個多小時,而蠟像的制作過程則更需要6個月到8個月。
孟露曾為許多名人從頭到腳測量他們的身體數據,但這些數據都屬于蠟像館的“絕對機密”,只有蠟像的主人和制作人員才知道,除非主人提出要求,否則蠟像館不會透露任何一個數據給其他人。在為每一位名人測量的過程中,孟露和同事都異常的仔細和認真,特別是眼睛到眼睛、眼睛到耳朵、耳朵到嘴巴、耳朵到耳朵等這些距離,是特別重要的數據,對于有些名人極具個人特色的細節,比如羅納爾多的兔牙——很多人覺得他的兔牙很可愛,制作時光靠數據還不行,你必須得拿著本人的照片一絲不茍地做出“羅納爾多”式的門牙才行!
孟露說,對于名人們牙齒的一般測量,她們會先看看牙醫那里有沒有齒模。如果沒有的話就通過貼身測量得到齒模和牙齒的色模。
在測量其他各項數據時,名人只要自然站立就行了,可有些動作夸張的名人,則要保持一個姿勢站上兩個小時,這就不那么容易了。比如郭晶晶,她當時就雙手筆直舉過頭頂做金雞獨立狀的跳水姿勢,動作保持兩小時,郭晶晶雖是運動員,但一個動作如此之久對她來說也很困難,當時孟露和一位同事只能一直在后面扶著郭晶晶,每隔5到10分鐘就讓她休息一次。
孟露說,不過她有位叫Petva的女同事為荷蘭女王進行全身測量只花了30分鐘,這大概是測量時間最短的一次。這是因為測量小組和女王約定的日子是荷蘭很重要的節日,當他們到達時女王已經整裝待發,準備外出參加活動,她只給了測量小組30分鐘時間。測完之后,女王還得站在一個轉盤上,讓工作人員從遠景到近景、從頭部到腳底、從全身每一個方位拍照,起碼要拍攝200多張照片!接著,按程序還得剪一撮女王的頭發,這樣才能為女王尋找質地和色澤與之最為相近的“蠟像頭發”。可是女王的頭發已經梳得整整齊齊,工作人員不敢想象在上面剪一刀的后果,最后,他們只好根據照片來尋找與她相近的發絲。
張柏芝是孟露十分喜歡的一位年輕藝人,在為她制作蠟像時,孟露參與了整個度身定做的工作過程:選定造形時為她拍360度的照片共300張,全身、半身、頭部大特寫等等一一拍齊,然后用專業工具定位面部左右的差別,最后連發質都要了解清楚,當然也有內衣牌子及尺寸、化妝品等都得全部記錄在案。當蠟像由英國運到香港時,人家眼前一亮:只見“張柏芝”身穿低胸晚禮服,側頭微笑著,臉上的皮膚真是好極了,細膩紅潤不見半個毛孔。孟露非常開心,因為那里邊有她的心血。
“由于制作蠟像的工藝非常精巧復雜,其造價也相當昂貴,每個大約需要花費25萬美金!”聽孟露說這話時,筆者頓時嚇了一跳。
走進全球最大的蠟像館
孟露出生在寧夏銀川市一個藝術世家,家庭氛圍的熏陶讓她深深地愛上了繪畫。在倫敦大學留學時,她學的是藝術和時尚設計方面的專業。她和蠟像結緣是因為她的男友,這位德國小伙用塑泥教她制作人像、360度影像、雕塑……這些技藝吸引了孟露。在這名特殊老師的輔導下,她很快便能把一塊塑泥變成藝術品。
到了2003年的實習期,經過嚴格考試,孟露獲準到倫敦杜莎夫人蠟像館實習,這個蠟像館于1835年設立,它在全世界最負盛名。尤其是創建人杜莎夫人,她的一生經歷充滿傳奇色彩:從管家的女兒到皇室教師,從塑像制作大師到孜孜不倦的事業女性,從逃過斷頭臺厄運的人到為昔日的皇室友人制作死亡面具……她不屈不撓的精神,給孟露留下了深刻印象。
走進杜莎夫人蠟像館,孟露看到這里陳列的都是世界各國的偉人、名人和明星蠟像,其制作之精巧真個達到了以假亂真的地步,以致于每當來賓駐足觀賞時,竟然分辨不出誰是蠟人誰是真人!而且它所陳列的人像不是一成不變的,每隔一段時間都會有所更新。因為蠟像館每年都要定期向前來觀賞的人征求意見,詢問大家心目中崇拜的人物是誰,敬佩的又是誰,然后根據得“票”數來決定陳列的先后次序,頗有點“民意測試”的味道。
館長告訴孟露,100多年前也就是清朝同治到光緒初年,這里曾經陳列過林則徐的蠟像,而且陳列的時間相當長。那時中國的外交官凡是到英國去過的,都參觀了倫敦的蠟像館,也都對這里陳列的林則徐蠟像有所記載。在中英鴉片戰爭中,林則徐以他無私無畏的精神,贏得了世界的尊敬,成為19世紀中期名震全球的偉人。因而在他死后不久,英國人就替他制作了蠟像,長期陳列,供人瞻仰。得知此事后,孟露為自己是一名中國人而自豪不已!
蠟像的制作是一門高超技藝,其中有一些秘訣只被少數人掌握,如雕塑蠟像原料的配制、顏料的增添等等。孟露是一個好學上進的女孩,通過留心觀察蠟像師們的工作流程,她發現制作蠟像首先是用膠泥做出精細的塑像,然后用它翻制成凹模,經凹模再翻出來的,就可以進一步修飾加工成為完美的蠟像了。很多人都不了解,雙手的蠟型制作和面模的制作同樣重要,尤其是為表現一位政治家的風度和氣質,手的動作所產生的效果絕對不容忽視。
漸漸地孟露得知了蠟像制作的全部奧秘,但她更加虛心了,這是藝術專業學生少有的特質。師父們覺得這個中國學生很有天分,教她時竭盡全力。
孟露的第一門功課是仿造自己的耳朵。“第一個月,師父們只讓我做雕塑,那不是很難,是訓練我的基本功。后來做耳朵就難了,線條彎彎曲曲,又要做出凹凸位形態。我通常是用相機把自己的耳朵拍成十多張照片,從各個不同的角度去拍,再掃描到電腦里,做成一個三維的模型,然后再照著做。其實我并不擅長電腦,因為沉醉于通向理想之路的喜悅里,所以我通宵不眠,如饑似渴地學習電腦操作,熊貓眼也日日伴著我。”她這樣向我描繪當時的學習情景。孟露如同一塊巨大的海綿,瘋狂地汲取著蠟像制作知識。當她在蠟像工藝上頗有心得時,老板宣布,她被破格錄用為杜莎夫人蠟像館的員工!就這樣,孟露成了該館第一位來自中國內地的蠟像維護師。
27-Year-Old Chinese Woman Works in Madame Tussauds

For Meng Lu, her life and career seem destined. One thing led to another and she now works at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London. But this summary is overly brief. The destiny deserves a lengthy story.
Born into a family of artists in Ningxia, an autonomous region in the west of China, Meng had a passion for art from early years. She majored in art and fashion design in London University where she met her German boyfriend. He introduced her to clay sculpture and she soon mastered the art of making sculptures out of clay. In 2003, she passed tough tests and began to work as an intern at Madame Tussauds. She worked diligently and learned fast. Her outstanding performance won her opportunities to watch the masters create figures and learn from them. Today, she is a full-time employee at the museum.
Her workday begins at 7 o’clock in the morning, long before the museum opens to visitors. She inspects and spruces up the appearances of the wax figures: their faces, hair, dress, shoes, etc, which add up to what they look to the world. All the celebrities must be treated attentively before tourists see them. Nothing should be overlooked. If she spots a discolored part, for example, Meng will paint the spot carefully and then use a hard-bristle brush pen to create the skin texture.
To keep all the wax celebrities true to life, Meng Lu and her colleagues do backstage maintenance work. Every celebrity has a few garments to change at regular intervals. Some backups are donated by celebrities themselves while some are duplicated by specialists hired by the museum. For some politicians and big-name entrepreneurs who wear suits, the maintenance workers at the museum need to iron their suits regularly to keep them in shape. Ornaments are another important issue to watch out. David Beckham, for instance, wears a marriage ring, which has to be wrapped up with a translucent tape when he plays on the football pitch. This detail can be seen in the museum. Yao Ming, the Chinese NBA player, has a simple and single ornament: a red string around his left wrist. Some jewelry will be cleaned regularly. Some celebrities donate some used jewelry so that their wax counterparts can have something to change now and then. Meng Lu and her colleagues make changes on regular basis.
The most tricky and most time-consuming part, however, is washing the hair of these celebrities. The hair is real hair, planted one by one on the wax celebrities. The special hair salon at the museum provides a monthly hairdressing service to these wax heads. Special shampoo and conditioners, which are more expensive than consumer products, are used. All the part under the hairline must be covered with a white sheet. Then shampooing, conditioning, and drying, just like what we receive at a barber’s shop. After that, the hair will be styled according to file photos. Beckham changes his hairstyle regularly. The maintenance masters at Madame Tussauds watch him closely. Once he switches to a new hairstyle, the masters will lose no time to duplicate it on his wax counterpart. Audrey Hepburn will not change her hairstyle any more. But combing and doing her signature long hair, after the regular washing, is the most time-consuming hair job Meng Lu and her colleagues do at the museum.
Celebrities change. So do their wax figures at the museum. When David Beckham posted a Band-Aid on his left brow due to an injury in a match, a similar Band-aid appeared on the same place on his wax figure the next day. When a Netherlands princess became pregnant, her wax counterpart at the museum had her belly gradually enlarging on a daily basis. After the princess gave birth to the baby, the figure’s belly became flat again.
The museum conducts an annual survey to pick the heroes most admired by the public and maintain a list of celebrities. It was under this system, Meng Lu learned from the museum curator, that the wax figure of Lin Zexu, the Chinese Governor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), a well known hero all over the world for his fighting spirit in the Opium War in the 1840s, remained on display for a long time. The Chinese diplomats of that time visiting London recorded their admiring this in their journals.
Meng Lu has been learning how to make wax figures. She did not start with sculpting the whole thing. No one has ever done it that way. She started with making an ear first. It was her own ear, in her case. She took more than 10 photographs of her ear from different angles. After scanning the photos into computer, she made a 3-D model of her ear with computer software. Then she followed the model to sculpt her own ear. She worked day and night to make the sculpture perfect. She is still learning the art in the hope that she is able to point to a wax figure at the museum one day and says “I did it”.
