日照，因“日出初光先照”而得名。作為新亞歐大陸橋東方橋頭堡，日照享有“東方太陽城”的美譽，并以“藍天、碧海、金沙灘”聞名于世。

日照市大力發展體育經濟，提出了“打造水上運動之都”的戰略構想，規劃建設了“亞洲第一、世界領先”的國際水上運動訓練基地。

日照市的旅游資源是十分豐富的，海、山、古、林兼備。其境內百公里的海岸線上有64公里的優質沙灘；有奧林匹克水上運動公園、五蓮山風景區、莒縣浮來山風景區等一批國內外知名的旅游景點；有世界上最大的漢字摩崖石刻——河山“日照”巨書；有天下銀杏第一樹——浮來山銀杏樹；有江北最大的綠茶基地、最大的毛竹生長帶、最大的野生杜鵑花生長帶。日照還是龍山文化的重要發祥地，境內已發現兩城遺址、陵陽河遺址、丹土遺址、東海峪遺址等。

日照市經過幾十年的建設發展，經濟和社會面貌發生了顯著變化。特別是改革開放以來，日照市的經濟和社會面貌發生了歷史性的大變革，綜合實力不斷增強，城市面貌日新月異，中國優秀旅游城市、國家衛生城市、國家環保模范城市、國家園林城市#8943;#8943;等稱號接連授予這座海濱城市，使之漸漸成為海內外關注的焦點。

Brilliance of the Eastern Solar City The literal meaning of “Rizhao” in Chinese is “the city getting the early sunshine” as the city of Rizhao gets the first sunshine in the eastern world. As one of the 15 coastal cities enjoying key development and construction determined by the state government as well as being the eastern bridgehead of the Eurasian continental mass， Rizhao is honored as the Eastern Sun City and is famous for its azure sky， blue sea and golden beaches.

Rizhao has rich tourism resources and is honored by experts concerned as the “only unpolluted gold coast in China”. In Rizhao， there are a number of famous tourist attractions such as the Olympic Aquatic Sports Park， Wulian Mountain Scenic Site， and Fulai Mountain in Ju County; it boasts the largest cliff inscription of Chinese characters in the world—“日照” (Rizhao) on Heshan; it has the largest ginkgo tree in the world located on Fulai Mountain; it has the largest green tea base， largest bamboo forest and largest wild azalea growth area in northern China. Rizhao is also one of the important birthplaces of the Longshan Culture. The ancient relic site of the Great Wall of the State of Qi， the ancient kingdom of Ju， and Rizhao harbor are all tourist attractions.

In recent years， Rizhao City has put forward a strategic blueprint for “building a capital of aquatic sports” and regards “building an ecological city” as one of the four strategies for city development. As a result， its character as an ecological city has become more remarkable.

Through dozens of years of development， especially since China implemented the reform and opening-up， great changes have taken place in both the economic and social areas of Rizhao. With the constant strengthening of its comprehensive power， Rizhao has won such honorary titles as China’s Excellent Tourism City， State-level Hygiene City， National Model City of Environmental Protection， and National Garden City.
