迭戈·馬拉多納——英雄進行時

阿根廷人對足球的熱愛，雖不能說源于馬拉多納，卻的確因為馬拉多納而變得愈加炙烈。足球場上，這個小個子英雄與生俱來的爆發(fā)力和靈氣，帶領阿根廷人登上了世界足球的巔峰。如今，重新歸來的馬拉多納在一片爭議聲中執(zhí)掌阿根廷隊教鞭。曾經的足球王者能否帶領阿根廷隊再現(xiàn)輝煌？我們拭目以待。

It’s Christmas Eve for the members of the Church of Maradona. These 1)diehard Diego 2)disciples have gathered to mark their 3)prophet’s 48th birthday. This year’s celebration is doubly sweet for the church’s 120，000 members. Not only are they celebrating their 10-year anniversary， but Maradona is about to take the helm of the Argentine National Team.

“I think this was destiny. We have to remember that Diego was in bad shape very recently. But believers like us helped put him where he is today，” he says.

“Diego has the capacity to make us world champions again because he knows how to guide the players in the right way，” she says.

Maradona was undoubtedly one of the greatest ever to play the game. His 4)crowning moment came in 1986 when he led Argentina to the World Cup title. During his 20-year career he also won championships in Italy， Spain and at home in Argentina with his beloved Boca Juniors.

This is La Boca—home of the Boca Juniors Football Club. It’s known for its colorful houses and colorful characters like Diego Maradona. His working-class roots in this neighborhood have helped endear him to Argentines of all backgrounds despite his 5)checkered career.

Digere M. Aacute;lvarez has covered football for Argentina’s largest newspaper Clarín for 28 years.

“He made many mistakes in his private life， with his wife. But he has something special that he’s always forgiven and people gave him a second， a third and a fourth chance.”

These chances of 6)redemption came after battles with drugs， obesity and the taxman. He’s been arrested and in 2004 a heart attack almost killed him. But he 7)rebounded quickly， losing weight， getting 8)sober and even hosting his own prime time TV show. But his eye has always been on a return to the national team. On the streets of Buenos Aires reaction is mixed as to whether he’s up to the task of managing the highly-talented-but-underachieving national team.

“I’ve never seen him as a good coach. He just doesn’t do it for me，” he says.

“You have to support Diego no matter what—no matter what，” he says.

Now that this “Football God” has gotten his wish， the world will be watching to see if he can create a second legend by leading Argentina to a World Cup 9)triumph for the first time since he wore the famous blue-and-white stripes.

阿根廷與“馬拉多納教”
