前情提要:巴迪是華爾街一名普普通通的股票經紀人，每天上班就是翻著電話黃頁簿不停地打電話，游說那些有錢人到他這里來買賣股票。沒想到，有一天他居然攀上了股市大亨戈登·蓋葛。于是日進斗金、翻云覆雨的華爾街好戲在兩人的操縱下頻繁上演。下面這段對話是蓋葛說服巴迪放棄職業(yè)操守，利用職務便利打探死對頭賴瑞·懷曼爵士的一舉一動，完完全全的為他所用。不過，值得欣慰的是，在影片的最后，巴迪在看清蓋葛的真面目后，幡然醒悟，聯(lián)合賴瑞·懷曼爵士一舉擊潰了蓋葛的陰謀。

Buddy: Uh， Mr. Gekko， we took a little loss today. ①We got stopped out on Terafly. About a hundred 1)grand.

Mr. Gekko: Well， I guess your dad’s not a union representative of that company， huh?

Buddy: How do you know about my father?

Mr. Gekko: The most valuable commodity I know of is information. Wouldn’t you agree?

Buddy: Yeah.

Mr. Gekko: ②The public’s out there throwing darts at a board， sport. I don’t throw darts at a board. I bet on sure things. Read Sun Tzu， The Art of War. “Every battle is won before it’s ever fought.” Think about it. You’re not as smart as I thought you were， buddy boy. You ever wonder why fund managers can’t beat the 2)SP 500? ’Cause they’re sheep. And sheep get 3)slaughtered. I’ve been in this business since ’69. Most of these Harvard MBA types， ③they don’t add up to dogshit. You need guys that are poor， smart and hungry. And no feelings. You win a few， you lose a few， but you keep on fighting. Buddy: Fucking ay.

Mr. Gekko: Then stop sending me information， and you start getting me some. Get dressed. I’ll show you my charts. (Get in the car.) You know the name?

Buddy: Of course. Larry Wildman， one of the first 5)raiders.

Mr. Gekko: Sir Larry Wildman. Like all Brits， thinks ⑤he was born with a better pot to piss in. Bribed an old secretary of mine to open her mouth. Stole RDL Pharmaceuticals right from under me. Wildman， the “White Knight”.

Buddy: I remember that deal. You were involved，

Mr. Gekko?

Mr. Gekko: Payback time， sport. See that building? I bought that building ten years ago. My first real-estate deal. Sold it two years later. Made an $800，000 profit. At the time I thought that was all the money in the world. Now it’s a day’s pay. Anyway， I had a 6)mole in Wildman’s operation. ⑥He gave me half the picture， then he got fired.

Buddy: I don’t think I follow you， Mr. Gekko.

Mr. Gekko: Wildman’s in town. He just became an American citizen. Something big is going down， OK? I wanna know where he goes， and what he sees. I want you， pal， to fill out the missing picture.

Buddy: Mr. Gekko， it’s not exactly what I do. I could…I could lose my license. If the SEC found out， I could go to jail. That’s inside information， isn’t it?

Mr. Gekko: You mean like when a father tells his son about a court ruling on an airline? Or someone overhears that I’m buying Teldar Paper， and decides he’s gonna buy some for himself? Or the chairman of the board of XYZ decides it’s time to blow out XYZ? Is that what you mean? I’m afraid， pal， unless your father’s on the board of directors of another company， you and I are gonna have a very tough time doing business together.

Buddy: What about hard work?

Mr. Gekko: What about it? You work hard? Bet you stayed up analysing that dogshit stock you gave me. Where’d it get you? My father， he worked like an elephant pushing electrical supplies till he dropped dead at 49 with a heart attack and tax bills. Wake up， will ya， pal? If you’re not inside， you are outside， OK? I’m not talking about some $400，000-a-year working Wall Street stiff， flying first class and being comfortable. I’m talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty， a hundred million dollars， Buddy. A player or nothing. Now you had what it took to get into my office. The real question is whether you got what it takes to stay.

Buddy: All right， Mr. Gekko. ⑦You got me.
