At the Chinese New Year’s Eve in China, we have CCTV Spring Festival Gala.(春節聯歡晚會)Ever since it started in 1983, the gala has been one of the most watched TV shows. Watching it while having the Chinese New Year’s Eve meal has developed into the typical way for many Chinese families to celebrate. However, the show has lost some of its appeal in recent years. Some people complain that it lacks originality – the acts are said to be too similar to each other. Chunwan, as it’s called, is often used in connection with a show that many feel is unimaginative and inauthentic(不真實的). But even with the complaints, the majority of Chinese still watch it. This is because the gala is more than a TV program- it brings together the family and provides a topic for conversation. Many Chinese living abroad are also eager to see the show online. By sharing the fun with their compatriots(同胞), they feel less homesick. When the hosts shout yanhuang zisun, or “the offspring (子孫)of emperors Yan and Huang,” meaning “Chinese all over the world,” the show becomes an opportunity for the celebration of Chinese cultural identity (認同)or “Chinese-ness,” in a popular entertainment form.

It is reported that each year, some 100,000 Chinese die in traffic accidents in the country - 274 deaths a day. Not only did the disaster happen in traffic, but also other aspects, such as, drowning, stampeding, ect.
Here are some reports about some accidents happened in 2009. On May 16, the death of 25-year-old Tan Zhuo, crushed by a speeding sports car in the hands of a 20-year-old college student Hu Bin in Hangzhou, is arguably the most high-profile road accident in recent times. On October 24, three 19-year-old college students from Yangtze University in Jingzhou, Hubei province, sacrificed their lives to save two boys who had been swept away by strong tides along the riverbank of the Yangtze River. On December 8, Eight students died, 26 injured in Hunan school stampede on Monday night in the city of Xiangxiang, Hunan province.
These cases are only three among several hundreds horrible accidents that take place around us every day. There is nothing we can do to bring back the lost lives, but there is something we can and must do to prevent similar disasters. Chinese Education Ministry has called on all schools nationwide to give lessons on safety in times of emergency every term.

Susan Magdalane Boyle was born in Scotland on 1 April 1961. She was the youngest of four brothers and six sisters. Born when her mother was 47, Boyle was briefly deprived of oxygen during the difficult birth and was later diagnosed as having learning difficulties. Boyle says she was bullied as a child and was nicknamed“Susie Simple”at school.
After leaving school with few qualifications, she was employed for the only time in her life as a trainee cook for six months and took part in government training programmes. She visited the theatre to listen to professional singers.
With Boyle took singing lessons from voice coach Fred O’Neil. Before she went to Britain’s Got Talent, her main experience had come from singing in her local Catholic church, in local choirs, and in karaoke performances at pubs in and around her village.
Boyle came to international public attention when she appeared as a contestant on reality TV programme Britain’s Got Talent on 11 April 2009, singing“I Dreamed a Dream”. Her first album was released in November 2009 and became the number one best-selling CD on charts around the globe. Global interest in Boyle started because of the contrast between her powerful voice and her plain appearance on stage.

1. 春晚
The CCTV Spring Festival Gala has lost its attraction to some extent. However, there are still lots of people who are fond of watching it since it provides a chance for family gathering, making people less homesick.
The CCTV Spring Festival Gala, also known as Chunwan, has been one of the most watched and favorable program in mainland China. Almost all the people around me have the experience of watching Chunwan with their family members. There is no denying that Chunwan has brought not only plenty of fun to people but also, served as a platform for many artists, who soon rise to fame after their appearance in Chunwan.
From my point of view, Chunwan is an indispensable activity in the new year’s celebration of my family. For one thing, Chunwan is elaborately designed with a number of wonderful performances like the Thousand hands buddist, which leave us audience a deep impression. For another, watching Chunwan with relatives is the most enjoyable thing in the new year’s eve and nothing can compare with such great fun.
2. 如何戒除網癮
The news highlights China’s treatment centers treating online addicts. Restriction of personal freedom and physical punishments are common ways of these centers. After two boys at separate camps became their victims, the public and the ministry of health began to say no to their methods.
Nowadays a growing number of teenagers are online for at least 6 hours a day, continuously using the chatting-rooms or tirelessly playing games. Worried parents choose to send their children to so-called “Salvation Training Camp”.
I am strongly against the measures some Salvation Training Camps take to treat the web addicts. Firstly, restriction of personal freedom doesn’t help them to build their self-confidence. Secondly, physical punishments may make the problem more serious.
In my opinion, proper guidance is the best way to cure web addicts. On one hand, they should be guided to use the internet in a healthy way rather than be strictly prohibited from going online. On the other hand, we should try our best to encourage them to distract their attention from the web by instructing them to do some more meaningful things in their spare time. Only by doing this can we cure them thoroughly and effectively.

Personal Safety
As is stated in the report, there are many accidents happening in our daily life, including the traffic, drowning, stampeding and so on, which caused many disasters. Consequently, giving personal safety lessons may stop the similar disasters.
There is no denying the fact that more and more accidents took place around us, making our personal safety under thread. Therefore, personal safety should be the priority to the students.
Having read the report about accidents happening in China, I instantly think of the accident which occurred to me ten years ago. Like other naughty boys, I like doing sports, especially swimming. It happened to be a summer hot noon. I went out to swim with my neighbor without parents’permission. Happy as we were, we even tried having a competition to see who could swim the fastest and farthest. In order to show my ability of swimming, I spared no effort to swim. Not until the middle of the river, did I realize that I have no other strength left, and my body was sinking into the deep of the water. Fortunately, with the help of my friends, I had a narrow escape. What an unforgettable experience! It is my showing off that causes the unnecessary accident.
This case is only one among several hundreds terrible accidents that take place around us every day. It is high time that we be aware of the importance of personal safety. And only with a good sense of personal safety can we live a safe and happy life!
4. 有沒有必要改變網絡游戲的字眼
Happy Farms have changed“Stealing Vegetables” into“Picking Vegetables”in response to the demand of the Ministry of Culture(because the government demanded to), which led to a wide discussion among people while some people don’t think it a good idea.
From my point of view, most people play it because of freshness, interest or just for fun, while some just follow fashion or meet the desire to steal things. On one hand, playing online games can provide people with excitement and satisfaction and meanwhile release people or lessen their pressure. On the other hand, people’s addiction to online games may consume their energy, which will certainly do harm to their health physically and mentally.
Changing“Stealing Vegetables”into“Picking Vegetables”in online games, however, is unnecessary in my mind. Games are just virtual but not real. People enjoy playing it largely because they can do some “bad” things like “stealing vegetables” that they cannot do in real life, from which they can get excitement and risk-taking experience. Some say they like the sense of accomplishment when they harvest crop planted by their own.
5. 極端天氣頻繁
According to the passage, extreme temperatures happen much more frequent than ever before in European countries. These are largely due to the heat produced in cities and the circulation of the atmosphere.
Reasons for extreme temperatures are varied. For one thing, human’s activities like burning fossil fuels produce carbon dioxide, which make the globe warmer, causing the global temperature to go up. For another, people’s cutting down trees that can absorb large quantities of carbon dioxide for furniture also contributes to the warmth of the earth, which gives rise to extreme temperatures.
Extreme temperatures can do a lot of harm to people’s health. The heatwave or the high temperatures can cause stress, worsening of diseases and even death, especially among children and old people. Therefore, to cope with the extreme temperatures, the most effective way is a global effort to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Individuals should use less energy, plant more trees and recycle materials because everyone’s contribution counts.
6. 救人是否要考慮自身安全
Three college students from the Yangtze University, who lost their lives in order to rescue two drowning children, were honored as heroes in many ways. Their behaviour drew public attention and wide discussion.
As to me, I will help the people in trouble without hesitation. Just as the saying goes, life is difficult. Everyone may face difficulties that they cannot overcome by themselves, so an instant help is important. Moreover, if you often try your best to help others, you will be helped when in trouble in return.
However, I will first consider my own safety before I can rescue someone in danger because it is not worthwhile to lose one more life in case I fail. Therefore, if I had been on the spot, I would have jumped into the river to rescue the child on the condition that I could swim. If not, I would have first called the police and then persuaded the people on the boat and the swimmers nearby to help.
7. 如何處理生活垃圾
People in a south China city protected the government’s building the incinerator plant, which the residents thought would release harmful substances. The government and the citizens are divided on this point .
Personally, the incinerator plant may contribute to the government’s coping with the increasing garbage which will be a big problem in future. However, the plant will of course release substances into the air which do harm to the people around because of its way of dealing with the rubbish. It is difficult to decide on the project.
People should dispose the garbage properly. We must recycle the material like paper, glass, clothing and so on. What’s important, the government should take measures to change people’s waste and leftovers into fertilizers for farmer’s planting crops. Most importantly, some harmful waste like batteries should be treated properly and recycled. It is a good choice to combine bio-fermentation, chemical treatment, garbage sorting and recycling in a reasonable way. Garbage disposal is a major problem all over the world, so we must try to reduce the garbage in daily life.
8. 描述“我心目中最?!钡睦蠋?/p>
Yuan Tengfei, an ordinary and talented teacher, is admired for his humor, non-mainstream points of view on many issues and the rare ability to bring the history in dull textbooks to life, making him “the greatest history teacher”.
Wang Qiang, a middle-aged man of medium height, is the greatest teacher in my eyes. He always wears a pair glasses and speaks standard and fluent mandarin. He is always enthusiastic about his work and puts all his heart into his teaching work. Of course, as a famous saying goes, “Gold can't be pure and man can’t be perfect.” Neither can he. He also has some shortcomings. For example, he tends to get angry or impatient when his students don’t behave well sometimes.
He has a strange way of making his classes lively and interesting. Sometimes, His witty remark causes a storm of laughter in his class. Listening to his class is a kind of enjoyment. Different from other teachers, he never burdens us with too much homework every day but we can get the best results. Never does he look down upon those poor students. On the contrary, he cares more about those who have trouble with their studies. In a word, he is a special teacher from whom other teachers should learn.
If I enter a normal university after the college entrance examination, I will equip myself with knowledge and develop my ability required as a teacher. I will attend classes related to eloquence and take all kinds of activities to become a versatile and all-round man. Only in this way can I become one of the greatest teachers in the future.
9. 如何解決學生睡眠不足的問題
A survey made in Australia shows that many teenagers lack one hour’s sleep due to organized activities and homework, which results in such serious problems as slow progress in study, weight, depression, illness and so on.
As senior three students, we have the same sleep loss problem not because of many organized activities but owing to the endless homework assigned by the teachers of all the subjects. It takes us at least six hours to do the homework so we have to stay up till far into the night. Our teachers always have a myth: the more homework we do, the higher marks we can get.
In my opinion, we students can’t change the situation but we can adjust our study plan and take time to relax. We are supposed to learn to strike a balance between work and rest. If necessary, remind the teachers that they should reduce homework. Above all, work hard but also work smart.
I strongly appeal to schools to return us the relaxing time by regulating and controling the load of our homework. Only in this way can we have enough sleep and thus improve our study efficiency. As for the govenments, they should consider later or flexible school start times.
10. 早打算早受益
Zhang Yan, a senior two student, needs to think it over before he decides what his future will be. Yan Nuo, a sophomore, planned his future in the cyber world in his high school.
If someone says,“The early bird catches the worm,”he/she means that if you do something early or before anyone else, you will have an advantage and have a sense of achievement.
One day I decided to have a medical examination. I knew that there would be many people lining up. So I went to the hospital at 7∶30, half an hour earlier than the office hours. And to my joy, I was the first one to get to the destination. First come, first served. It took me only one hour to finish my medical examination. I saved at least two hours.
As senior three students, we should make a future career plan though we are busy with our lessons every day. The old idiom, “the early bird catches the worm,” will still work perfectly forour career building. The earlier directions you have, the less time you will waste.

Earth Hour
“Earth Hour”calls on people to turn off the lights for one hour on the last Saturday night of March. More than 33 Chinese cities also participated in the global environment campaign.
Through these efforts, we hope every family could realize the importance of saving resources and live a low-carbon life. If we can use environmental-friendly products and turn off appliances which are not in use, it will create enormous benefits. It also will let politicians and other decision makers know people are concerned with conservation.
Now, some people don’t utilize the energy the right way. Some times we can see the phenomena that many students lack the sense of environmental awareness: they left the class room with the lights on or conditioners on. People seem unaware of how much energy they can save by simple steps.
I advocated that we should try our best to cut down pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We should raise the awareness of environmental protection. Start from doing small things. Always remember everyone should be responsible for our earth.
12. 對Susan 大媽事例的感想
Although Susan was born disabled, and she once was laughed at, she overcame her disadvantages and won world fame because she had a dream, and struggled for her dream.
The story of Susan touched me very much. I think we shouldn’t judge a person from his/her appearance. And, there is no smooth way to success. Only by hard work and perseverance can we achieve our life goal.
This reminds me of a similar experience of one of my friend. He had a nickname: wood head. He was always laughed at because he was thought not as clever as others when he did something. So you can imagine how disappointed his parents were when the result of examination came out. But after he became a junior middle school student, he worked very hard to catch up with others, always asking teachers or classmates questions that he met. He was admitted to a famous university of Guangdong last year.
We should learn the spirit of perseverance from Susan and my classmate to achieve our dreams.
