4. 嵩明縣李關村的旱情報道

Liguan Village， located in Songming County， is about 60 km away from Kunming. For the last three months， about 4，000 thirsty villagers， representing over 600 households， come with their empty buckets and rush to the center of the village， where a fire engine arrives once a day to provide water for villagers because rain hasn’t fallen for six months and the village’s only reservoir has dried up. Now， the worry is that the field is so dry that the villagers can’t even plough it.， and even with no water for seeding， their only source of income has dried up. So The Ministry of Land and Resources announced last week that 1，100 new wells would be dug in 10 counties by the end of May. The severe drought since last autumn has hit the southwest of the country， which causes great national concern. Thus， it has affected endless people， leaving them without adequate drinking water. What’s worse， the economy in China has suffered heavy losses and cropland has become unproductive. Due to the terrible effects brought by the long-lasting， far-going and severe drought， the priority at the moment is to ensure drinking water for local people at any cost and not a single person should suffer from a drink water shortage. 7. 中學生是否應在第二課堂上高爾夫球課

Opinions on whether middle school students should have golf class on campus are divided into two groups. Those who support playing golf think it can not only enrich students’ school life and make them healthy physically and mentally， but also it’s good for adults to find the gifted golf players from their early age. While others hold the opposite view， saying that playing golf is only a game for rich people， which is easy for the affluent 2nd generation to vie with one another. What’s more， playing golf is a kind of sports for the noble and not suitable for most children， so it’s hard to popularize among ordinary people.

In my opinion， whether we should introduce golf into class depends mainly on local economic development state as well as people’s sports habits.

I’m so glad having such a chance to visit China. Very first time， I noticed how crowed it is and a lot of people here! But most of signs here are both in Chinese and English， so it makes it pretty easy for you to get around here. In China， the development of cities makes little different， I might feel the same wherever you are， in Shanghai， Beijing or Guangzhou.

It is strange to me not to have snow over the holidays， mainly Christmas and New Year Festival， we usually get a lot of snow from January to March in America. I guess so far the most impressive thing would be visiting some of the historical sites，especially the Great Wall， there is less pollution here and I could see very far into the villages.

10. 互聯網使用情況調查

Last month， the Youth League committee and the Students’ Union together conducted a survey about internet use behavior among all the school students. 80 percent of the school children begin to have access to internet at the age of 9. The purpose of surfing the internet is to watch cartoons and films， download music， play games and study with playing games their favourite. Some students like playing games and chatting online， making them addicted to the Internet. The parents who were interviewed think that proper internet surfing is beneficial to the students’ study and intelligence development but they suggest that students should not overuse internet.

11. 記一次環保活動

Last Wednesday our class organized an environmental activity whose topic was “Joining Together to Build a Civilized City” in a community and was divided into three groups. Group 1 of 10 students went from door to door recycling the used batteries. Not fearing dirt or fatigue， the second group of 20 people cleared up the poster paper posted on the walls and the rubbish on the ground. The last group of 15 handed out the leaflets of the environmental materials and they also invited their schoolmates and neighbours to take part in the environment protection promotion. In order to limit and gradually eliminate the ozone-layer-depleting chemicals internationally， on January 23， 1995， the conference of the United Nations decided to make September 16th International Protect Ozonosphere Day. Low Carbon Living means in our daily life we should reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions， esp the emissions of carbon dioxide.We can live a low-carbon life by doing some healthy， natural and mild sports as well as eating organic and healthy food without smoking. It’s necessary to switch off all electric appliances and water taps when not in use and use less plastic bags and disposable products. When you go to work or go to school， remember to take a bus or walk rather than drive.
