CPAPD Vice-President Yan Junqi’s Good-will Visit to Nepal and Sri Lanka

At the invitation by Nepal Peace and Solidarity Council (NPSC) and Pathfinder Foundation of Sri Lanka (PF), Mme. Yan Junqi, Vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee, NPC, and Vice-president of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD), heading a CPAPD delegation, paid a successful visit to Nepal and Sri Lanka consecutively from Oct. 8th to 15th, 2013, accompanied by Mr. Ma Wenpu, CPAPD Executive Vice-president.

During her visit to Nepal, Mme. Yan respectively met with Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav, Civil and Foreign Affairs Minister Madhav Presad Ghimire, former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal and former Parliament Speaker Subas Nemwang. Yan also attended in a seminar co-organized by the CPAPD and NPSC with the participation of representatives from nearly 20 Nepalese NGOs, and a donation ceremony of stationeries and schoolbags sponsored by GINWA Investment Group Co. Ltd, and the donation was made by the CPAPD to a native middle school. The friendly visit has further promoted the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and the comprehensive and cooperative partnership between China and Nepal.

During her visit to Sri Lanka, Mme. Yan was invited to a breakfast meeting hosted by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and welcoming luncheon of eminent personages hosted by Mr. Milinda Moragoda, Senior Advisor to President Rajapaksa and Founder of the PF. Yan also met with Sri Lankan Deputy Parliament Speaker Chandima Weerakkody and attended a seminar co-organized by the CPAPD and PF with the participation of representatives from over 10 Sri Lankan NGOs. Besides, Yan also chaired a working meeting with the PF to discuss future mutual exchanges and cooperation between the two organizations, and practical ways to facilitate the cooperation of fishery, tourism, education, etc. between the two countries. Viewed as a landmark for people-to-people diplomacy between China and Sri Lanka, the goodwill visit has boomed the development of the comprehensive partnership of cooperation between the two countries.
