The British people have voted the best-loved childhood movie. E.T., directed by Steven Spielberg in 1982, takes the top spot.
1500 people have been spoken to in the vote held by a market research company. E.T. beats Bambi (1942), the very touching movie, as people’s favourite childhood movie. Meanwhile, The Goonies (1958), The Lion King (1994) and Toy Story (1995) are also popular.
The poll found that the film people couldn’t get enough of and voted to watch again and again was The Shawshank Redemption. And the line “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” from Gone With The Wind was chosen by one in 10 people as the best film quote.
Action and adventure was the most popular film, and then comedy, science fiction and romance for preferred viewing.
