人人都有皮諾曹的長鼻子！

My 1）proposal is that every person in the world should have a Pinoccio nose—a bit of global genetic engineering that would take us to the next evolutionary stage in social intelligence. You keep your own shape of nose， but it’d behave like Pinoccio’s—It’d get longer and bigger whenever you tell an untruth. The bigger the lie， the bigger the nose. If we all had Pinoccio noses， we’d have an instant indicator of the status of any statement. Imagine those election debates， or peace negotiations…We’ll know when people are being 2）untruthful， even doctors or 3）priests. We’ll know when a novelist is being 4）uninventive， or the memoir is a fake. 5）Intimate untruths would be hard to 6）whisper. We will all learn new and better ways of relating and communicating with each other. Small talk and big talk will change. Perhaps the nose will evolve too， to 7）indicate not only the white lie， but the purple lie and the blue lie. In time， there will be new social norms： acceptable 8）swelling， and unacceptable expansion.

我的建議是世界上的每一個人都應該有一個皮諾曹的鼻子——全球基因工程會把我們帶到社交智能的下一個進化階段。你能保留自己鼻子原來的形狀，但是你的鼻子會像皮諾曹一樣——當你說謊的時候，它就會變長變大。你的謊話越大，你的鼻子就會越大。如果我們都有皮諾曹的鼻子，我們任何言論（的真假）都會馬上顯示出來。想想那些競選辯論，或是和平談判……我們就會知道人們什么時候是在說謊，甚至對醫生和牧師也一樣。我們會知道小說家（寫的東西）到底是不是原創的，或者回憶錄是不是假的。隱秘的謊言將很難被隱藏下去。我們會學習一種新的、更好的方式來與彼此交流、聯系。閑聊和辯論（的方式）都會改變。也許我們的鼻子也會進化，它不僅能夠顯示善意的謊言，還能顯示“紫色”的謊言、“藍色”的謊言。不久，就會有新的社會準則：允許你的鼻子腫了，但是不允許你的鼻子變長變大。
